Nest Family Farm

Nest Family Farm A family owned small scale farm and homestead in plant hardy zone 4, Northern Ontario. We sell the vegetables and the meat birds to local customers.

We sell seedling plants, grow our vegetables, raise meat birds and have laying hens. We are a husband and wife team, who also work full time jobs apart from the farm. We have 3 children, whom we teach about sustainable farming practices, show them how food grows and increase their awareness of healthy eating. We are in our second year of official farming, though we've had a garden for several years prior to launching a farm.

With a few hard frosts (and ice at the same time!), the garden is done. Well, the main garden. The fall items are still okay :) The meat chickens are happily cleaning up the garden, eating the fallen tomatoes, left over greens and any bugs trying to hide :) To the customers who will be receiving these chickens: you won't be disappointed!! They look great!

What's got you busy these last few weeks?

Oh boy! Its hot and humid out there and I spent nearly 2 hours cleaning out the broody boxes for my chickens. I stink and so did they!! They are happy now :)

Good Morning Farm Friends!! What a beautiful morning to be out picking veggies :) I think I picked a record size zucchini.... 8lbs 6oz!!! The other one I picked was 7lb 7oz! WOWZA!!

Hi Farm Friends! As I type, the Farm Boss is preparing the fall garden. More green leafy veggies, radishes, beets, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and others should be ready in a couple of months :) Do you plant a fall garden or crop?

07/24/2013

Hi Farm Friends :) Its much cooler around here (more tolerable, yay!) so I may head out for blue berries! Enjoy the sweat-free day ;)

Hi Farm Friends!! We weeded the pepper rows this morning, in the sweet wet glorious rain!!!! Yay for RAIN!!! We also have cukes and zucchinis now :) I love Farm Fresh Veggies :D

Hi Farm Friends! The garden is in full swing here: peas, beets, radishes, lettuces, chard (end of the crop), scapes! The spinach is done until cooler weather rolls back in ;) There are green tomatoes on some of our plants, yay!!
What are you harvesting?

07/10/2013

Hi Farm Friends :) Weeded and staked tomatoes yesterday and saw many flowers and some teeny tiny tomatoes :D Super awesome! Then the sun came out and I melted, lol!! The beans, beets and more beets are on the weeding list...then we should be good 'cause all else is mulched!

How do you keep the weeds at bay? What do you use?

06/29/2013

Hi Farm Friends! I weeded the zuchinni and cucumber beds and mulched them all! I'm sore and tired in a very accomplished kind of way. maybe I can convince my Farm Boss to use Deep Blue oil from my doTerra Essential Oils line in a massage?! :)

06/27/2013

Hi Farm Friends! Despite keeping our chickens under cover, under chicken wire (!!) we still have had arial predators take several chicks out!! I cannot believe this :( 5 dead ones in one day!!!! Its a huge crow/raven this time. I'm stunned!!!

06/11/2013

Hi Farm Friends :) There is new life here! We have a batch of chicks hatching, and we're very excited! I'll post pics when they dry off and are cute and fuzzy!

Hi Farm Friends!

This is my new business; I'm an Independent Product Consultant for doTerra Oils!! They are a company in keeping with our farm's philosophy as well as my own personal philosophy ~ all natural healing and treatment of what ails you! Their ils are certified Therapeutic Grade ~ meaning only a drop or two will do ya!! They smell divine (if you like to follow your nose) and are backed with lots of scientific research (if you follow your mind, lol). I follow both, so they speak to me (if you follow your years...hahah!)
