I’ve made a difficult decision to close Pitbull Tough.

•

Over the last couple weeks I’ve been reflecting, and I realized that this is a community I can no longer support.

My hope for this business was that I could bring together people over the love of their dogs, and the anger towards BSL legislation.

To me, profiling a dog based on its looks is not conducive to the personality they have.

And in doing so, I’ve always felt the same about people.

We are all different and amazing no matter our race, culture, or identity.

I’ve realized as news of this freedom convoy has built, that the community I once supported and fought with for anti BSL laws, is the same community who stands with this freedom convoy.

If you haven’t been keeping up to date, here are some of the many offences this group has created:

• standing with white supremacy
• harassing businesses and by passers
• attacking amazing community leaders like and
• preventing people from getting into hospitals
• disrespecting the indigenous community
• making the Ottawa community feel unsafe
• causing anxiety to both community members (human and pets)

I became ashamed of the community I’ve built through this business, and I realized that I needed to step away.

I’m not posting this to center myself. This is not a post of pity. I hope it serves as a reflection to those that stood proudly with the convoy. I hope they understand the damage they are inflicting.

You are only as good as the company you keep. And I realized the company I was keeping, was not one I was proud of.

Discounts will be added to the site so I can clear out inventory in the coming days.

As reparations I will be making a donation to Black Lives Matter Waterloo once the store has officially been locked down.

I hope to one day create a new business that centres around a community I can get behind.

My absolute favourite part of my job, is getting customer photos. 📸

The other favourite part (well one of many) is being able to support the amazing dog rescues/fosters out there.

Instead of running an affiliate program, I wanted to run special deals and discounts for dog rescues and fosters. 🐕

Tell me your go to’s for doggie meal prep! 🍽

I love these little ice cube trays for freezing pumpkin. 🎃

Violet has a tendency to get stomach aches, so they are perfect to have on hand for a sore belly.

I also love to stuff our XL soda cans, and spread some raw food over our lick mats. 👅

It makes feeding the dogs in the morning so much easier.

Is there any meal prep go to’s you make for your fur friends? 🐕

Violet and Murphy have two very different play styles. 🐕

Violet loves attention, so the game isn’t fun unless someone is tugging on the other end of something.

Murphy on the other hand, likes to play independently. He appreciates a good toss of a toy, but he is a resource guarder. 🧸

We are working hard to show Murph that there is nothing to worry about.

It’s not about taking things away from him.

It’s about earning his trust.

Trust is a hard thing to build in a two year old rescue dog.

But we are working on it! ❤️

Meal prepping for my dogs has become this weird motherly domestic habit for me. 🍪

Like is this what moms feel like packing their kids lunch? 🍽

Like hey, look at all this nutrition. My kids are going to be so healthy and strong.

I’ve never been super maternal to human kids. But I will fight anyone for my dogs. 🍼

A big part of our 2021 year was adopting this perfect little guy.

When we initially adopted him I was worried.

How would a new dog settle into our lives?

When you adopt a rescue, even though the rescue tries their best to understand the dogs personality, it takes months of hard work and bonding to truly know a dog.

And this guy was so shut down when he came home.

I knew he’d be more introverted than our dog.

But I worried we’d never bond.

I was worried he wouldn’t settle into our lives.

I’m so so very happy to be wrong.

Once he opened up, I got to see his unique personality and all the amazing quirks he has.

He loves to have his head held.

He makes the perfect lap dog.

He is obsessed with his mom.

And he doesn’t like fluffy beds (that one took me awhile).

Murphy needs lots of boundaries, and I’m so happy to get to advocate for him and watch his comfort zone expand.

2021 might not have been the perfect year.

But we will always think back on it as the year where this amazing guy became ours ❤️
