National Zoo Keeper week is July 20-26.
The purpose of this week is to raise awareness of the remarkable work they do year round.

The Zoo Keeper life is fun but there is a lot of work in front and behind the scenes.
Days can be very dirty and smelly, and physically exhausting.
From the sweltering summer heat to the bitterly cold winter blizzards, they are here caring for over 300 animals.

A Zoo keepers everyday responsibilities include more than just caring for the animals. They may take care of mechanical repairs or keep records.

This is done with lots of love from every Zoo Keeper or they would not be here.

Due the extreme temperature, we have closed our doors for today, Wednesday, July 16.
Thank you for your understanding.

We would like to add that because we have closed our doors and it states on our website
"EJZ is weather permitting and may close early due to the weather conditions ,without notice."

Unfortunately someone was not understanding.

When we explained why we have closed nuremrous times to you and you still ignore what we are saying, it does not imply we are at fault just because we will not let you in.

We have many cooling enrichments to do with our animals and when we close the doors, they stay closed!

Throughout the summer we have many camps who visit the zoo. Yesterday, our zoocrew welcomed 140 campers from one camp!
It was a fun day for all!!

Do you know why June 21st is World Giraffe Day?

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation decided to celebrate the tallest animal in the world on the longest day of the year!

Elmvale Jungle Zoo is very proud to have birthed 5 calves since 2016.

Some fun facts about giraffes:

Giraffes sleep 30 minutes a day in short bursts (approx. 5 minutes) standing up

An adult male can grow up to 18 feet!

Giraffe spots are like a human fingerprints. No two are the same.

When visiting, make sure to say hello to our beautiful herd, Gertrude, Rina, Suki, and Ginger!
