"The term "Cavalier King Charles Spaniel thumbprint" refers to a chestnut-colored spot on the forehead of some Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, also known as the "Blenheim spot" or "lozenge". This spot is said to resemble a thumbprint and is a desirable characteristic in the breed, often associated with a legend about the Duchess of Marlborough.
The Legend:
The legend states that during the Battle of Blenheim, Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, anxiously awaited news of her husband's safe return. She reportedly pressed her thumb on the head of an expecting dam, and the resulting litter of puppies all had this unique chestnut spot on their foreheads."
