❕Let’s talk about Parvovirus ❕

Canine Parvovirus Infection or commonly called “Parvo” is a highly contagious virus. This virus attacks the white blood cells and gastrointestinal tract of dogs.

While all dogs can get Parvovirus, there are some that are at a higher risk of infection. Such as puppies between 6-20 weeks old, unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs.

Canine Parvovirus is easily spread by direct contact of an infected dog, infected stool or contact with surfaces that the virus may have touched (kennels, water/food bowls, collars/leashes/bedding, humans, etc).

Symptoms of Parvovirus:
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- Severe, often bloody diarrhea
- Fever or low body temperature
- Abdominal pain

If your Veterinarian suspects Parvovirus based on symptoms, history and other factors. F***l testing may be done to help confirm a diagnosis and begin immediate treatment.

Keeping up with good pet hygiene, avoiding infected dogs or sick dogs, vaccinating and insuring initial puppy vaccines are up-to-date and complete, properly disposing of dog f***s, washing hands and changing clothes if in contact with an infected dog are some ways to help protect your dog.

If you suspect your dog may be ill or have concerns and questions regarding Parvovirus, please contact your veterinarian.

You may receive an email from Trupanion in regards to previous claims that have already been submitted. These claims can date back to February 2024 when we switched our software in our clinic.
In short, Trupanion recognized an error with the amount they were covering. This means you could potentially be getting some money reimbursed via mailed cheque!

She is a 10 month old C**nhound pup and she came to the clinic with an injury to her front left leg.

Medial shoulder instability or subluxation of the shoulder joint occurs when the medial glenohumeral ligament, the subscapularis tendon or the shoulder joint capsule get inflamed and become progressively more lax and frayed. This condition can affect any size dogs.

Treatments involve rest, anti-inflammatory medicine and physiotherapy.

Lady does like the rest part and is healing well! She truly lives up to her name 😊
