Not all heroes wear capes… sometimes they wear bike helmets and hit that crosswalk like it’s the runway. 😎👏

Peace Officer Dinn was out on patrol and caught some local legends doing the right thing - helmets on point while biking and crossing at a crosswalk like absolute pros. 💯

Council has given all three readings to Bylaw No. 2313, the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw.

This bylaw puts a focus on pet care and ownership responsibility, regulates the number and types of animals allowed per household, establishes restraint regulations, clears up definitions for “vicious dogs”, establishes parameters for addressing nuisance, aggressive, or dangerous dogs, and clarifies the complaint mechanism with clear penalties for non-compliance.

Many of the changes stem from our public consultation done in 2024, as well as best practices pulled from many communities across Alberta.

One item of note, which received significant support in the public engagement, is the addition of regulations for cat licensing to match the regulations for dogs. As such, the licensing and regulation of cats has been added to this bylaw. Now that the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw has been passed, residents are required to register their cats, however, no fees will be attached for 2025. Fees will be reviewed during the annual review of the Fees and Charges Bylaw scheduled for later this year.

The public consultation also showed support for moving towards a lifetime licence for animals, however, at this time, licensing will remain yearly to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the financial implications associated with adding cats to the licensing program.

The new Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw has a major focus on pet owners being accountable for their pets' actions, setting community expectations, and meeting the needs of evolving animal welfare standards.

A reminder about our updated Social Media Page Rules, as listed in the Town of Edson Social Media Policy and Procedure passed on April 1, 2025.

We do our best to allow for discussion and comments on all of our posts, however, we've seen an increase in spam, and have tightened up the automatic filter for profanity, external links, and images. These posts are automatically hidden by the page and reviewed.

We ask everyone to review the rules before posting and ensure this remains a civil (and family friendly) space where people can receive important community information from the Town of Edson.

While feedback is important, abuse of staff and officials will not be tolerated. Nor will unfounded accusations and defamatory statements.

Thank you for understanding.

Town of Edson Protective Services wants to remind residents about the importance of shoveling snow this winter.

Snow and ice covered sidewalks play a big role in a majority of winter injuries in Canada.

To combat this problem, residents are responsible for clearing the entire width of the sidewalk down to the bare pavement, no more than 48 hours after a snowfall, as per The Community Standards Bylaw. Sand and/or salt need to be applied to sidewalks immediately after a freeze-thaw cycle.

Please do not shovel snow onto streets since it can contribute to unsafe road conditions, impedes storm water flow, and can delay street clearing. Also, do not shovel snow onto neighboring properties.

Those who do not comply with the Community Standards could face a fine of $150 and could be charged with clean up costs as well.

If you have a concern about an uncleared sidewalk, call Enforcement Services at 825-605-5432 or use the Town of Edson Mobile App’s Report-a-Problem feature. Report-a-Problem is also available through the website at https://www.edson.ca/services/report-a-problem.

📢 Supporting Our Community: A Message on Homeless Encampments 📢

We recognize the concern and frustration as we work to address concerns surrounding homeless encampments around our community. Balancing the needs of our community members, businesses, and individuals experiencing homelessness is a priority.

If you encounter an encampment and require assistance, please remember:
➡️ The first point of contact should be the RCMP non-emergency line at (780) 723-8822.
➡️ In life-threatening emergencies, or if you notice a fire, please dial 911 immediately.

Our RCMP and Municipal Enforcement teams are dedicated to working together and handling these situations with care and compassion. If additional support is needed, Municipal Enforcement can be reached via dispatch by calling (825) 605-5432.

A reminder that business owners are encouraged to attend a Town Hall Meeting on November 20th starting at 7PM at the Edson Friendship Centre to discuss the topic of homelessness. This meeting will also be live streamed.
