(A Guide to Making Sure Your Furry Menace Doesn’t Disappear)

🏡 FORTIFY THE CASTLE (a.k.a. Your Yard)

Check the fence for escape holes worthy of a prison movie.

Make sure the gate closes all the way — your dog will test it like a tiny furry velociraptor.

🦮 LEASH & COLLAR: THE DYNAMIC DUO

Collar should be snug (2-finger rule), unless you want your dog to slip out like a magician.

Inspect the leash for fraying. If it looks like dental floss… replace it.

🔖 ID TAGS & MICROCHIPS: THEIR PASSPORT HOME

Updated ID tags = faster reunion, fewer tears.

Microchip your dog — it’s basically GPS for responsible humans.

👀 SUPERVISION: BECAUSE THEY CAN’T BE TRUSTED

Leaving your dog alone outside is basically sponsoring a jailbreak.

Do not tie them up unattended unless you want them to Houdini their way into the street.

🚪 DOOR SAFETY (THE GREAT ESCAPE POINT)

Teach “WAIT” so they don’t bolt out like they’re late for work.

Open doors slowly — your dog might be plotting.

🙋 REMINDER FOR WALKERS & VISITORS

Close the gate behind you. Seriously.

If you don’t know how the gate works, ask. (The dog does.)

A SECURE DOG = A SAFE DOG = A HAPPY HUMAN

(Also: fewer posters that say LOST DOG, which are never funny.)

✅️NEW TO YOU RESCUE PUPS

Until your rescued/newly adopted pup is bonded to you as if with Gorilla Glue it is best to keep them on a leash while outdoors.....yes! Even in your own yard.

If a new to you pup gets away it will be next to impossible to get them to come back to you.....the stranger that you are.
