Montana Ranch-Style Homemade Dog Treats — 7 Ways (Do you count frozen yogurt bites as “real treats”… or only baked biscuits?)
Quick safety note (important): use xylitol-free peanut butter, and never use chocolate, grapes/raisins, onion/garlic, or macadamias in dog treats. If your dog has allergies, check with your vet first.
1) 5-Ingredient Baked Treats (Classic “Biscuit” Style)
Ingredients
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup peanut butter
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp molasses
1 cup milk
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix everything into a thick dough. If it’s sticky, add a little flour; if dry, add a splash of milk.
Roll out to about 1/4 inch and cut shapes.
Bake 18–22 min until set and lightly golden. Cool completely.
2) Frozen Dog Treats (Yogurt + Banana Bites)
Ingredients
16 oz plain Greek yogurt
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
2 ripe bananas
2 tbsp honey
Directions
Mash bananas, stir in yogurt, peanut butter, and honey.
Spoon into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
Freeze 3–4 hours until solid.
3) Bacon Dog Treats (Game-Day Version)
Ingredients
1/4 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup beef broth
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
4 tbsp bacon grease (optional, for richer treats)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Whisk peanut butter + broth + eggs (and bacon grease if using).
Stir in flour + oats, then fold in bacon.
Roll and cut, or scoop small mounds.
Bake 20–25 min. Cool fully.
4) Sweet Potato Treats (Chewy “Dog Chips”)
Ingredients
2 sweet potatoes
Directions
Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
Slice sweet potatoes into 1/4 inch rounds (thinner = crispier).
Lay on a lined baking sheet.
Bake 2.5–3.5 hours, flipping halfway, until dried/chewy.
Cool completely (they firm up more as they cool).
5) Carrot Treats (Crunchy + Slightly Sweet)
Ingredients
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups shredded carrots
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
2 tbsp honey
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix all ingredients into a dough.
Roll, cut, and bake 18–22 min. Cool completely.
6) Beef “Jerky” Strips (Oven-Dried)
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
3 tbsp water
Directions
Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
Mix beef + water, then press very thin on parchment (about 1/8–1/4 inch).
Bake 2–3 hours, rotating pans as needed, until dry and fully cooked.
Cool, then break into pieces.
(Tip: for extra safety, make sure it’s fully cooked—no pink—and store it refrigerated.)
7) Banana Treats (3-Ingredient “No-Fuss”)
Ingredients
3 1/2 cups rolled oats
3 ripe bananas
1/2 cup peanut butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mash bananas, mix in peanut butter, then stir in oats.
Roll into small balls and flatten slightly.
Bake 15–18 min. Cool fully.
