Picture this: it’s a beautiful summer day, and you’re on your way to pick raspberries at Horse Hill Berry Farm. Maybe you’ve brought a friend, your kids, or the whole family. You get to escape the city for a moment to enjoy some time in nature, picking raspberries that were grown with love. Then you take your raspberries home, maybe you make a pie, jam, or just enjoy them on their own. Whatever your plans are, we’re looking forward to seeing you this summer 🤗

As our season comes to a close, we take a moment to remember Farmer Dave who was so pivotal in the first decade of Horse Hill Berry Farm.
Each summer, Dave was our field manager who supervised weeders, mowed the grassy rows and then spent 6 weeks in the berry shack helping customers. Folks who visited the farm came to know him as “Farmer Dave” as he always had on his farm t-shirt, well-worn jeans, and an old straw hat. He died in September 2019 after a brief cancer illness. We miss him and honour his memory by continuing to provide U-Pick Raspberries every summer to Edmonton and the surrounding areas.

Highlighting our international farm volunteers: Clémence (from France) & Marietta (from Germany)! These two wonderful ladies were our farm volunteers (known as WWOOFing ) for July and August. We appreciated their quiet and steady approaches to early mornings spent weeding the fields and picking berries. They both took care of our chickens, and helped with making jams and other delicious raspberry treats too. We wish Marietta well at her next farm on Vancouver Island, and Clémence safe travels on the rest of her adventures on the West Coast!

Meet Jackie! Jackie is Horse Hill Berry Farm’s founder. She started the farm in 2007 with Dave and their neighbour, Todd. She is now transitioning the operation to Sam, her son and horticulturalist. Jackie has worked as a nurse and educator for over 30 years. We appreciate her organization and leadership skills, allowing for us to provide fresh, locally grown raspberries to our community. Thank you Jackie 🤗

Meet Blake! Blake is Carter’s younger brother and helped us get the fields weeded and ready for customers this July. He is chill and hardworking, and we’re happy to have had him on our team briefly this year! Thanks for all your hard work Blake 🤗
