‼️‼️ Something all dog owners should be aware of as they welcome a new 4-legged member into their home:

⭐️ THE 7 ‘S’ SYSTEM ⭐️

… A little planning goes a long way in creating a happy, balanced home for both your dogs! To set them up for success and build positive first impressions, keep these 7 S’s in mind:

➖ Separation
Give each dog their own safe space (crate, room, or gated area). This prevents overwhelm, provides a place to decompress, and ensures they each have their own belongings.

➖ Slow Introductions
First impressions matter. Let the dogs meet gradually—ideally on neutral territory—and don’t rush the process.

➖ Snacks!
Use positive reinforcement during interactions. Pairing the presence of the other dog with tasty treats builds happy associations.

➖ Structure
Stick to consistent routines for feeding, walks, training, and rest. Structure reduces stress and helps both dogs know what to expect.

➖ Special Attention
Spend one-on-one time with both your resident dog and your new one. This reassures them that they’re each a valued member of the family.

➖ Supervision
Closely monitor interactions until you’re confident in their relationship. Stepping in early prevents small issues from turning into big ones.

➖ Signs of Stress
Learn to read canine body language. Signals like lip licking, yawning, stiff posture, or avoidance mean it’s time to give space.

Seeing Brody (Now Goose) flourish outside the shelter tonight was pure joy. His tail wags a little bigger, his eyes shine brighter, and his goofy personality is finally shining through! 🐾

After roaming as a stray and spending 116 days in the shelter, this sweet boy is now thriving in a home environment—ready to learn all the basics no one ever taught him before.

Shout out to Parkland County Animal Shelter for caring for him during his long stay, to Pets In Need Alberta for giving him a fresh start, and an extra round of applause for his incredible foster who opened their heart and home to him. 🖤

➖ While adoption is one of the most rewarding choices you can make, it’s often misunderstood… ➖

❌ MYTH #1: Rescue dogs are “damaged,” unpredictable, have trauma/issues, or are aggressive.
✔️ Truth: A huge number of dogs enter rescue due to human circumstances — not behavior problems. Reasons include moving, illness, job loss, divorce, death in the family, or financial constraints. These dogs are often well-mannered, affectionate, and simply looking for stability after life threw them a curveball.

❌ MYTH #2: You don’t know what you’re getting.
✔️ Truth: Many rescues complete temperament testing and behavioral assessments. If the dog has been in foster care, you’ll get valuable insight into how they behave in a home environment — with kids, cats, routines, and visitors. In fact, you often know more about an adult rescue than an 8-week-old puppy, whose temperament and needs are still developing.

❌ MYTH #3: You can’t get the breed you want.
✔️ Truth: Alberta is home to several fantastic breed-specific rescues (Example, “Henry” — pictured — who currently waiting for his forever home).

❌ MYTH #4: All rescue dogs have trauma.
✔️ Truth: Not every rescue dog has had a traumatic past — and even those who have are incredibly resilient. With the right structure, care, and training, they often adapt beautifully and go on to live happy, confident lives.

❌ MYTH #5: Older dogs can’t learn.
✔️ Truth: Older dogs are often easier to train! They’re more emotionally mature, have better focus, and are past the chaos of the puppy stage. Many already have basic manners, are house-trained, and adjust quickly to new routines.

❌ MYTH #6: It’s harder to bond with a rescue.
✔️ Truth: The bond with an adopted dog is often stronger — many truly seem to know they’ve been given a second chance. Their loyalty and connection run deep, and it’s incredible to witness the transformation once they feel safe and loved.

Private dog parks are growing in popularity—and for good reason! These fully fenced, rentable spaces are a fantastic way to explore new environments with your dog in a safe, controlled setting.

Whether you book solo time or invite a friend, private parks offer the perfect opportunity for your dog to:
✔️ Burn off energy
✔️ Practice recall and training skills
✔️ Sniff and explore a new environment
✔️ Socialize in a low-pressure setting

Ideal for reactive, anxious, or just high-energy dogs, these parks let your pup enjoy freedom while you relax knowing they’re secure. It’s a great way to add variety to your exercise and enrichment routine and build confidence in a safe space.

Below is a list of Edmonton area offleash parks that I recommend to ALL clients 🐾

- Awesome Pawsome Private Off Leash Park 1
- Unleashed Acres
- Laneway Getaway Private Dog Park
- Glenpark Pet Hotel & Suites
