It’s only Week 2 of Heidi & Autumn’s Frantic to Focused Bachelor program, and the progress inside the home is already incredible.

When they first started, things were pretty chaotic — barking at the window, stealing toys from each other, bouncing off furniture, and reacting to every little sound or movement. Their brains were always “on,” and it made it tough for anyone in the house to relax.

Now?
They’re paying attention, settling faster, and learning to share without tension. They’re calmer around the window, more respectful of each other’s space, and making the home feel so much more harmonious for everyone.

This is exactly what early FTF work is designed to do:
Build calm → build focus → build cooperation → build better walks → build more peaceful life with your dogs

So proud of these girls and their humans. 💛

🎓 Frankie’s “Frantic to Focus” Wins This Week!

Frankie had a huge breakthrough today — and it happened in one of the hardest environments for him: a busy park full of birds, people, dogs, and movement (aka his personal Olympics).

This boy came into training with:
Sky‑high excitement around people
Big feelings about wildlife
Launch‑style greetings
And a brain that flips into “bird‑hunting mode” the second he hears wings
But today?
He showed us just how much he’s growing.
✨ He offered downs before greetings.
✨ He held his relaxation even when excited.
✨ He checked in with his handler instead of staring down birds.
✨ He greeted politely for 1–3 seconds without jumping.
✨ He walked past a decoy dog with a loose leash.
Frankie is learning that calm behaviour works, and his impulse control is getting stronger every week. His mom has been putting in the reps, and it shows.
Way to go, Frankie — from frantic to focused, one session at a time. 🧡

Meet Odie — the big puppy with the even bigger heart! 💛
He’s in our Therapy Dog Puppy Prep Program, which helps families start their pups on the right paw so they grow into calm, confident Therapy Dog candidates later on.

And wow… Odie is crushing it already.

• He’s learning to leave things on the ground (even the tasty stuff).
• He met another dog and their person and stayed calm without pulling.
• His loose leash walking is on point — no more dragging Mom around.
• And he’s only halfway through his program.

Odie may be big, but he’s still a young pup learning the world — and he’s doing amazing.

If this is what you want for your puppy, I’d love to help your family too.

“Joanne trains with a calm, kind and professional manner.” 💙

Cooper’s family reached out because walks were becoming stressful and overwhelming. His anxiety made it difficult for him to focus outside, and everyday situations were starting to feel exhausting to manage.

Now his family is seeing calmer walks, more focus, and a dog who’s learning to look to them for guidance instead of reacting to everything around him. 🐾

One of the biggest transformations isn’t just Cooper’s behaviour — it’s the confidence his family is gaining while walking him.

That confidence changes everything:
✨ More enjoyable walks
✨ Less stress
✨ More freedom together

Thank you so much to Cooper’s family for the thoughtful review and for all the hard work they’ve put into his training journey.

If your dog struggles with anxiety, reactivity, or stressful walks, you’re not alone — and things can improve.

Walking Murphy used to feel stressful.

Seeing another dog often meant lunging, barking, pulling, and trying to manage the chaos before the walk even became enjoyable. His family wanted to be able to take him out more confidently and actually enjoy spending time together outside.

After just his second session in our Focus Elementary School Program, Murphy is already learning to slow down, focus on his people, and walk near other dogs much more calmly. 🐾

One of the biggest wins?
His family is starting to feel more confident handling him on walks again.

That confidence changes everything. More walks. More freedom. More quality time together. 💙

Reactive dogs aren’t “bad dogs.”
Often they’re overwhelmed dogs who need guidance, structure, and support.

Murphy is a private dog training client and we’re so proud of the progress he and his family are making already!

If walks with your dog feel stressful or exhausting, you’re not alone — and things can improve.

🎓 Cooper Graduated! 🎓

When Cooper first joined the Frantic to Focused PhD program, his mom was dealing with a lot — constant jumping, grabbing at people’s clothes, door dashing, pulling her toward other dogs, and feeling like every walk was a battle. What bothered her most day‑to‑day was the fear that he might accidentally hurt someone with his jumping or excitement.

Fast forward to today, and this boy has completely turned things around.

Cooper now:• walks calmly without dragging his mom down the street• can pass dogs without getting anxious or pulling toward them• greets people politely without jumping or grabbing clothing• waits at the door instead of pushing past or dashing out• is relaxed, focused, and so much easier to handle

Friends and family have been commenting on how much better behaved he is — and they’re right. His mom put in the work, stayed consistent, and it shows in every part of his behaviour.

The best part? She can now walk both dogs at the same time instead of one at a time. That’s how much progress this team has made.

Way to go, Cooper. You earned this graduation. 🐾

⭐ Dog Training Myth: You must “assert dominance” so your dog knows you’re the alpha.

And here is the full post with that headline woven in exactly the way you asked — upfront, clear, assertive, and tied directly to your training philosophy:

✅ Reality: Dogs don’t operate on outdated dominance hierarchies. They’re not trying to take over your household — they’re trying to feel safe, supported, and guided. Modern training is about being a confident leader who shows your dog the way, not forcing obedience through fear or intimidation.

🎥 That’s why I wanted to share this interview. Dr. Alexandra Horowitz explains the concepts below beautifully, and they are strongly support modern behavioural science — the same principles I use in my training every day.

Here are the key points that align with my approach:

• She directly addresses the outdated dominance/alpha myth, explaining that dogs are not constantly vying for “top dog” status. Healthy relationships with dogs function more like family units — with humans providing clarity, safety, and leadership, not force.

• Dogs understand tone, rhythm, and singsong patterns of the words we say.• Their sense of smell is their primary way of gathering information, and sniffing isn’t optional — it’s how they make sense of their world.• Dogs can read our emotional states through scent, which is why our stress, tension, or calmness affects their behaviour.• They have memory, which is essential for learning and explains why they remember routes, routines, and past experiences.• Adolescent dogs can be challenging because their brains develop more slowly than their bodies, which is why they’re impulsive and inconsistent.

This research supports everything I emphasize with clients: letting dogs sniff, understanding how they process information, and recognizing that behaviour is deeply tied to development, emotion, and the environment we create for them.

If you’re interested in training that’s grounded in modern behavioural science — not outdated, old‑school methods — feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help you understand your dog on a deeper level.

🎓 Cooper Graduated from his Frantic to Focused Private Training Program ! 🎓

Huge congratulations to Cooper and his amazing mom. When they first came to me, leaving him alone in the home was stressful — accidents, anxiety, and a lot of worry about how he’d cope when she stepped out.

Now his mom can confidently leave the house knowing her boy is calm, settled, and accident‑free. No more pacing, no more full anxiety, no more coming home to stress. Just a relaxed dog who trusts the routine and feels safe when she’s gone.

We also worked on his barking and reactivity around other dogs and along the fence line. Cooper is now coming when called away from the fence, choosing connection over chaos, and making life so much more peaceful for the whole family.

I’m so proud of this team — the consistency, the commitment, and the heart they put into this work really paid off. Way to go, Cooper. You earned this graduation.
