Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society - GEARS

Our vision is simple: We are gearing towards a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect. (822791430RR0001)
Our purpose is to:

1.

Our mission is to provide force-free compassionate care as a foster home-based animal rescue; focusing on rehabilitation and responsible rehoming. Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) is a non-profit organization. Identify and take into immediate foster care, animals that are:
a. Stray, abandoned, or homeless
b. May face homelessness due to owner death or placement in a higher level of care
c. Owned by someone leaving an abusive situation

2. Train and rehabilitate rescued animals, bringing out their full potential. All animals will receive vet care as required, and will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

3. Find suitable approved foster and adoptive homes for rescued animals based on animal characteristics and an in-depth screening of potential homes.

4. Provide education and assistance to adoptive homes, ensuring the permanent welfare of the adopted animal.

5. Educate the public on GEARS mission, vision, and goals, as well as responsible pet ownership, animal interaction, and animal welfare.

6. Support and collaborate with local organizations and businesses with the goal of improving the lives of animals in Alberta.

❄️ At least someone is loving the snowfall…

Meet Andy, our enthusiastic “snow‑removal assistant,” who insists he’s very helpful with the shovel.

This big love bug is looking for a furever home with no cats, a comfy couch, and a human who appreciates his dedication to outdoor chores and indoor snuggles.

Rescue Story: Elfie was found as a stray and transferred to GEARS’ care from a partner agency.

Hi, I am Elfie. I am a very shy and timid boy, I’m not too sure about humans yet, but I love other kitties. If you’re patient with me I will grow into a loving boy. My foster mom is sure that with time I will turn in to a cuddle bug.

I am an easy little man to care for, as I am litter trained and I spend most of my days laying around the house. I do enjoy playing with my toys though, and I really like chasing around the other cats that I live with. I would do well with a friendly older cat who is not aggressive with new cats, so that they can teach me that my new family is friendly, and I can have someone to play with.

I’m very food oriented. Like all food… seriously – ALL food. I’ll eat your food if you let me.

With time and love, I’ll be your bestest friend.

Rescue Story: Habanero and Serrano were found, along with their sibling, as stray kittens. They were transferred to GEARS’ care through our Sheltered Paws program.

Hello! We are the Pepper Kitties – Habanero and Serrano. We’re the best of friends; where you see one of us the other is likely nearby. We cuddle & sleep together, eat together, zoom around and play fight with each other, and sometimes groom each other, too. We start off pretty shy, but never hissy. Soon enough, we’ll be friends (feel free to bribe us with treats).

Habanero:
I’m generally the less shy one of the duo – a big, handsome guy who is always wearing my tuxedo. I love to play and to eat – if you leave food out on your table or counter you can bet I’ll want a taste! My favourite toys are the ones I can bat around and carry in my mouth. I’m a bit of a goofball and make my foster family laugh often. I follow my favourite human around like his little shadow, and I absolutely love stretching out on his lap for pets and evening TV time.

Serrano:
I’m a very sweet and quiet girl, who is a little more timid than my brother, but earning my affection is pretty straightforward and rewarding. I’m also a pro with the scratching post – I only needed to be shown once. I take a lot of cues from my big buddy, Habby, so if you win him over I am likely to warm up to you, too. Tube treats really help – they are my favourite! I can’t resist a wand toy play session, either.

We will bring laughter and smiles to any home, I hope you’ll consider us!

Hi, I’m Spooky! 👻🐾 Your future boundary coach and part-time cuddle enthusiast.

I know what I want and I’m not afraid to tell you! I’ll happily follow you for snacks and snuggles, but when I’ve had enough pets, I’ll let you know. I’d do best with older, cat-savvy kids who understand that my boundaries deserve respect.

I’m a bit of a slow burn, but earning my affection is worth it! When I’m not zooming around, climbing my 8-foot cat tree, or hunting bugs, you’ll find me bird-watching from a sunny window or snoozing in my favourite spot.

My dream home? I’m a strictly solo-cat girlie who wants her space all to herself — no other cats or feline neighbours, please! A calm, respectful dog could be a great match, though, as I currently coexist peacefully with one.

Independent, playful, and full of personality, I’ll make you work a little for my love — but once I choose you, it’s something special. 💕
