Adoption Update: Jigzee

When Jigzee first came to us, his world had been turned upside down. His owner had passed away, and he was scared, unsure, and slow to adjust to shelter life. While his brothers settled in quickly, Jigzee needed more time. And that was okay, we gave him the patience and space he needed.

Now? Jigzee is living the life he deserves. His new family tells us he’s a “confirmed couch potato”. The shy shelter cat is now a content, cozy companion - proof that the best transformations are worth the wait.

Happy lounging, Jigzee. You’ve earned it, and we couldn’t be happier for you. 🥹

Meet Diesel – a local pup looking for a new forever home!

Diesel is an almost 2-year-old male Frenchie/Boston Terrier mix. He’s mostly black with a slight brindle coloring and is full of personality! His current family is seeking a new home for him due to conflicts with their other dogs and concerns for their children’s safety. Diesel is up to date on his vaccinations and was seen by a vet within the last year. He’s a sweet, snorty little guy who loves people and is full of energy!

Behavior Notes:
▪️Diesel needs work on housetraining. He understands commands but still has accidents, especially when he’s overeaten (he tends to eat the f***s of the other dogs in the home and then has accidents in the kennel).
▪️He gets along with kids but does not do well with other animals.
▪️He has had serious fights with one of the resident dogs and cannot be around the family’s German Shepherd at all.
▪️Diesel would thrive as the only pet in the home.

Other Needs:
🐾 Diesel would benefit from more one-on-one time with his person and a structured, consistent routine to support his behavior and training.

Ideal Home for Diesel:
Diesel needs a pet-free home with someone who can give him the time, attention, and continued training he needs. He loves humans and would make a wonderful companion for someone who can commit to helping him succeed.

🏕️ Camp Catnip is in session! 🏕️

We can’t take the shelter cats camping, so we brought the great outdoors to them! From cozying up in the tent to “grilling” a plastic fish stick over the (toy) fire, our adoptable cats had a blast exploring this month's camping-themed enrichment setup.
All of these cats are looking for their forever families, and they’re just waiting for someone like you to bring them home.
Each cat has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and received age-appropriate vaccines and deworming, so they’re happy, healthy, and ready to start their new life with you!

✨ Move Out Monday ✨

It’s a very happy Move out Monday because we’re thrilled to announce that after 223 days in shelter, Sparkle (now Ozzy) was adopted last week 🎉🙌

One of our longest residents, Sparkle grew up at the shelter, something we’ve seen too often with our black cats. He graduated out of the kitten room into the adult room. Now, he’ll get to celebrate his first birthday on August 30th with his new family.

His new family came to meet all the cats, but Sparkle shone the brightest. They have a soft spot for black cats and were looking for one who was affectionate but independent. Sparkle checked all the boxes, they’re even fans of how chatty he is!

His new family shared:
“My partner and I just adopted Sparkle (now Ozzy) on Wednesday and he is already coming out of his shell! We’re absolutely in love with this guy ❤️. We wanted to thank all the people who have cared for this sweet boy so that we were able to welcome him to our home.”

Congratulations Ozzy, we’re wishing you a happy ever after. Thank you to his adopters for choosing him and for giving him the happy ending he deserves! 💫

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a field trip for the Drumheller Public Library! The kids got to meet all of the cats, and did plenty of cuddling along the way. 🐾

They also heard a great presentation from our shelter coordinator, Meaghan, who shared some important lessons about cat care and the dangers outdoor cats face. We love helping the next generation learn how to be kind, responsible pet guardians. Thanks to the library for visiting, we hope to see you all again soon!

Cat of the week - Juno

Approximately 1.5 years old, Juno is one of 6 cats to arrive at the shelter this summer. She is an affectionate cat that will happily curl up in a lap for some cuddles. An expert biscuit maker, Juno loves to “kneed” her paws to show how happy she is.

Still coming out of her shell and putting on some much needed weight, Juno is getting to know her new roommates. Juno has now been spayed so she won’t have to worry about caring for any kittens, she can now learn to be a kitten herself!

We’re excited to see how her personality develops as she continues to settle in. If you’ve been thinking about adopting come by and meet this girl soon!

Our amazing Leesha is getting married today! 💍

If you’ve adopted a cat from us recently, you can thank Leesha for taking care of them during their time at the shelter. As our dedicated part-time morning staff member, she puts so much heart into cleaning, feeding, and loving every cat who comes through our doors.

Today is her special day, and we’re sending all our love to Leesha and Owen as they start this new chapter together. Wishing them a lifetime of love together ❤️

Volunteer Spotlight - Brie (featuring Skittles)

Wonderful Brie has been a dedicated volunteer for the past few months, generously giving her time 1–2 mornings a week. She works alongside our morning staff to help clean, feed, and care for the cats, and always makes time for some extra snuggles, too. Brie’s consistency, compassion, and positive energy have made her a valued part of our team, and we’re so grateful for everything she brings to the shelter. When we asked her how she feels about her volunteer role she said:

“I love being given the opportunity to spend quality time with all the unique special fur balls! Volunteering at the shelter is important to me because animals have been a constant source of joy in my life. While it is bittersweet when a new kitty enters the shelter, it’s amazing to be a part of and witness the positive transition each cat has thus bringing them closer to their forever homes.
If you’re considering adopting don’t hesitate to come and meet the cats here. They’re amazing, especially my guy Skittles. He’s a big guy with a lot of love, or maybe Bacardi who wouldn’t think twice about couch rotting with you. 😘 Come over! I bet you find who you’re searching for”.
