Pet of the week - Penny

Meet Penny! This 11.5 year old lady is looking for a place to settle down and enjoy her golden years.

Penny loves one on one attention from people. Being brushed is her favorite activity, closely followed by napping and snacking.

While she may not have kitten energy, Penny still has lots of love to give. If you are looking for a quieter feline friend, this lady is might be the right fit for you. She would be best suited as the only cat in the home but could reach room mate status with another independent cat.

Welcome Wednesday

This week we’re welcoming a BUNCH of new faces!

Juniper is an approx 4 year old Whippit/husky mix who joined us last week. She was seized from a home with many other dogs - most were tied to doghouses. She was very emaciated and took time to gain weight and recover.

We are unsure of exposure to cats, livestock, or the wider world, given that she was likely tied up most of her life.

Since being seized she’s been placed at a boarding facility since ***2024****. In that time she had exposure to older kids (preteen/teenagers).

Juniper is wicked smart and has high energy, she will need a running or hiking buddy and someone to help keep her mind active. She has been waiting a LONG TIME for her new family to find her, could you please help us get her adopted quickly so that her new life can start???

🐾 Maisie: 1 year old female
🐾Jerry: 8 month old male
🐾 Eris and Alita: 2 month old sisters

Move out Monday 🎉

This week we are celebrating big time because CINDER WAS ADOPTED after 131 Days!

He started as an itty bitty foster cat and was growing up right before our eyes. We’re so happy he finally gets to start his new life.

Not only that, but the family decided to give him a life-long buddy and took Buttercup home too. We’re so glad that they get to grow up together, happy forever after to you both!

AND as it happens, one of our team members wanted to add to her chaos and took Blossom home too. Blossom will join a DDHS alumni cat sibling and even a dog sister.

Happy forever after to all these lucky kitties 🏡

Pet of the Week - Cherry

Meet Cherry! This sweet girl is an approximately 11 month old Australian Cattle dog or Heeler that came to us from the RCMP.

Cherry and another dog had been abandoned and were in danger due to exposure to extreme heat and weight loss. We're happy to report that after 4 weeks in care with us, Cherry has gained the weight she needed and has started to show us her personality.

A loving, cuddly dog, Cherry is still young and full of energy. Knowledge of herding breeds will be extremely helpful for adopters and Cherry will need someone who is patient with her as she gets to experience the wider world.

DAISY & CHERRY UPDATE ❤️

We are SO happy to report that both girls are doing well! 🥹

Since arriving, Cherry has gained 19% of her initial body weight, and Daisy has gained 29%. While we can see some of the external changes, their bodies are still working hard to replenish the internal fat and muscle stores that we can’t see or feel.

Both girls are now starting their third calorie increase since arriving, and as they get stronger, we’re finally starting to see more of their personalities come out.

Daisy is now out of the danger zone and is coming back to the shelter to continue her recovery with our team. Her foster family tells us she is good with cats, and she is understandably protective of her food given what she has been through.

Cherry has been with us for 3 weeks now, and her personality is really starting to shine. Our entire team is completely enamoured with her. She is a loving, cuddly girl who just wants to be close to her people. ❤️

We are now accepting adoption applications for both girls.

Finding the right homes will be incredibly important. They need families who understand that their recovery isn't over just because they are looking better. They will need continued care, patience and commitment as their minds and bodies fully recover from what they experienced.

We are so grateful to everyone who has supported Daisy and Cherry along the way. They are getting stronger every day, and we can't wait to see what comes next for these two girls. ❤️

FIN Friday!

Fin was adopted recently and we thought he deserved his own post to celebrate. 🎉

When he first came to us he was scared and just wanted to be left alone (or you’d get a swat). That’s not the type of cat that gets adopted quickly!

It took months, but over time Fin settled in and his true, sweet personality emerged. His new family came many times to visit all the cats and Fin was the one!

We’ve already heard that he’s doing great in his new home (although a little wary of visitors). They’d said:

“Fin is doing great! He hid for the first 24 hours, but he hasn't looked back since. He's become my couch buddy every evening . . . he likes to curl up on my lap and be petted.

He's eating everything that I give him, and I'm continuing him on the diet that he started at the Humane Society.“

Happy forever after Fin! 🏡 🥰
