Baby Midge is settling into her foster home and learning how to be a kitten! Her first week was a little rough — she developed pneumonia — but she’s on the mend and gaining weight every day.

Please join us in thanking her amazing foster parents Katharine and Steve šŸ™ŒšŸ‘ā¤ļø This is the third tiny, fragile kitten they’ve lovingly nursed back to health — the others being Tyra and Bean. We’re so thankful for their care and compassion!

šŸŽƒThis October, we’re putting the spotlight on black cats—without putting them at risk. šŸˆā€ā¬›

Black cats aren’t a Halloween novelty—they’re living creatures who deserve forever homes, not to be used as props or decorations. Some shelters even pause black cat adoptions in October to protect them.

If you’re starting to get into the Halloween mood and want to celebrate black cats safely while supporting a great cause, then good news: you can adopt a black cat stuffy from us!

🐾 For just $5 Each comes with a DIY beaded collar kit and its very own adoption certificate.

Not only do you get a cuddly new friend, but your ā€œadoption feeā€ helps cover food, medical care, and safe shelter for the real cats waiting for their forever homes. 🧔

Stop by during our open hours and adopt your black cat stuffy —because every ā€œadoptionā€ helps a real one.

Hours:

Saying goodbye to an animal is never easy šŸ’”

We recently had to assess and evaluate Evie, a young cat in our care that arrived with what appeared to be eosinophilic granuloma complex with underlying allergies. Supportive care can only do so much - medication to help her eyes feel comfortable, antihistamines and antiinflammatories to control itching and swelling had a limited effect.

The puffy skin, open sores, and hair loss continued. At every step of her stay with us, Evie was evaluated for her overall quality of life. Following the guidelines set out by the Asilomar Accords and the recommendations for medical conditions in shelters, the decision was made to consider euthanasia as a final treatment option.

One last vet visit for a final consultation with the doctor after a day of treats and cuddling, Evie was held in the arms of someone that cared and loved her.

Leaving the vet clinic with an empty carrier or collar is heartbreaking. But we owe the animals in our care support and love right to the very end.

We want to thank every volunteer who has helped care for Evie and made her stay with us filled with love. And thank you to the veterinary team at Valley Vet Clinic for giving her a peaceful departure.

Cat of the week - Dusty

Sponsored by A&W Drumheller šŸ‘

Dusty is a 3 year old, neutered male Domestic Short Hair that came into the Humane Society with his brother Greyca after their owner had passed away.

A very shy fellow, it has taken several weeks for Dusty to feel comfortable enough to sit on top of his bed and be willing to interact with the world outside his kennel.

While he still likes to burrow under his blankets, Dusty is now much more social and willing to explore. He absolutely adores treats and will do just about anything for a treat tube.

Dusty has lived with other cats as well as a dog and would fit into nearly any house though he may find a lot of activity overwhelming.

Come down and see if this adorable dust bunny is the right cat for you!

Thank you A&W Drumheller for sponsoring todays post!

Volunteer Spotlight - Carly

We’re so grateful to have passionate volunteers who share their time with us. Today, we want to highlight Carly who has this to say:

ā€œVolunteering at the Drumheller Humane Society has been an amazing experience for me. The staff are extremely welcoming, and you clearly see how much they care for each and every cat.
My favourite part is being able to watch cats come out of their shells, and getting to know each of their colourful but different personalities.
The feeling of pride coming in and seeing that another cat has found their forever home makes it so easy to keep coming in and hoping for the same thing every week.ā€

Thank you Carly for all your hard work taking care of the kitties, we appreciate you!

If you want to make a difference like Carly, sign up here to join our team. We have a mix of morning and evening shifts available: https://t2m.io/ddhsvolunteerform

And help us give Carly some love in the comments šŸ™ŒšŸ‘ā¤ļø

Calling all hairdressers, stylists, and cat brushers extraordinaire!

Our Cat of the Week Sky is a gorgeous long-haired beauty looking for someone who can keep her looking (and feeling) her best with regular brushing and coat care.

The best part? Sky is a total pro when it comes to grooming. She’s incredibly patient—she’ll even tilt her head to the side and let you work through her coat as long as you go slow, use the right tools, and respect her limits.

Whether you’re a seasoned stylist or just someone who loves pampering their pets, Sky is ready to be your forever client—and your forever cat. She’s adoptable and so ready to start her new life. Come meet her and fall in love!
