This past weekend Terri took a little road trip all the way to Drayton Valley to teach a Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid course to this wonderful group of students!! Not only was she able to share some of her over 2 decades worth of animal care knowledge but as always she learned a few new things herself. Sharing experiences with fellow animal care providers is one of her favourite parts of teaching First Aid!
A big shout out to The Barking Lot for being such gracious hosts and to all our participants for braving the first snow storm of the year to make learning pet safety a priority!!
Not only are the whole staff at The Barking Lot certified in Pet First Aid but also Dog Grooming by Natalie; Glossy Dog and team members from Cause for Critters!!!

If you also would like to know how to learn to help your pet, or a clients pet in the unlikely event of an emergency, please reach out to be added to the contact list when we organize our next class.

Want to host your own private class? Reach out for more details, Terri is always willing to travel anywhere in Alberta or North Western Saskatchewan. Work with rescue? Discounted group rates or fundraising events can be negiotiated.

Did you know that the actual bite from a tick has no threat to the host (person or animal), however, the real risk is the ability to transmit lyme disease?
Ticks found on your pet can be brought into our clinic for us to submit to the surveillance program and determine if that tick has the ability to carry lyme disease. In the case that it is a worrisome species, the physical tick will be submitted to be tested.

Reminder to please keep all pets up to date with vaccines ☺️
Unfortunately there has been reported cases in Drayton Valley of dogs with Kennel Cough.
Please ensure your pet(s) is up to date on all vaccinations, including Bordetella.
While it acts like a common cold with a cough in humans, Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis (Kennel Cough) is a highly contagious respiratory disease in dogs, that can lead to pneumonia if left unchecked. If your dog presents a cough and gets worse please contact your vet.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact your vet immediately.
Thank you for keeping your pets vaccinated, and keeping everyone safe.

Friendly Reminder 🤗

Friendly Reminder 🤗

⏰ Don’t forget to ‘spring forward ’ TONIGHT! 🌸

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10th at 2:00 AM.

Be sure to set your clocks forward 1 hour before bed TONIGHT!

We will be losing an hour of sleep and that time shift can affect our sleep patterns, making us feel a bit groggy. So, catch up on some extra z’s to stay alert, especially while driving. There is often an increase in accidents on the roads right after a time change.

Most of your devices like smartphones and computers will adjust automatically, but remember to manually change the time on your alarm clocks, microwaves, ovens, and car clocks.

Also, it’s a great time to check and replace the batteries in your smoke and CO alarms to keep your home safe.

November marks National Pet Diabetes Month, with the 14th being specifically World Diabetes Day.

Diabetes keeps pets from producing or utilizing insulin appropriately, which prevents the conversion of food to energy; as a result, extra sugar remains in the blood. Though this disease has no cure, it can be managed with treatment and monitoring so pets can continue to thrive.

Risk factors
*Aging Dogs and Cats
*Obesity
*Underlying diseases
*Long-term use of medications including corticosteroids

Signs of diabetes
*Excessive thirst and increased urination
*Weight loss
*Decreased appetite
*Cloudy eyes (particularly in dogs)
*Chronic or recurring infections (eg, skin and urinary tract infections)

Diagnosis
*Bloodwork and Urinalysis

Treatment
Pet owners will need to manage their pets’ diabetes with daily doses of insulin, glucose monitoring, attention to diet and exercise, and regular veterinary checkups. Each patient is unique, so they will require an individualized treatment plan consisting of a new diet and medications.

Diabetes is a lifelong condition, however early detection and proper treatment can allow pets to continue to lead happy lives.

Dear Valued Customers
(New clients please read below paragraph)
Starting this June 2023 I will be adjusting pricing, and you may see a $5 increase on small pets, $5-10 on small-medium pets and $10-15 on large pets. This is my first price increase since opening and as much as I’d like to stay at the original price, I have to keep up with inflation and increased costs of operating 🩷 if there are any questions or concerns please reach out.

NEW CLIENT REQUESTS
I would love to fit everyone in, but unfortunately I have extremely limited appointments available after the closure from the wildfires causing the schedule to be backed up, and one of our towns lovely groomers at another salon is healing from an injury ❤️‍🩹 I am happy to take your information and place your name on my cancellation list, but at this time I cannot promise an appointment. I hope to have more availability after catching up, and it never hurts to check in with me 🤗 if your having trouble finding a groomer feel free to message and I will let you know who’s accepting clients!
Thank you for reading 🌸🐶
