We get asked all the time, “how do I improve my riding? I can’t take another lesson, is there anything I can do?” - the answer is there is so much you can do to improve your riding, even if you don’t have the time or money to ride more!
💪🏻 Work on your own Fitness! As anyone who rides knows, it takes a lot of physical and mental strength. Exercises to improve your balance, core and leg strength, and stamina are all important to your success as a rider. There are lots of great (and free!) exercise routines for riders available online!
👀 Watch Other Lessons! We are lucky enough at the barn to have lessons going on every single day. Stay and watch lessons on your day, or come on a Tuesday/Thursday to watch the competitive lessons. Watching other riders helps you to address problems in your riding. When someone else is having a similar problem to you, you can take the corrections they are getting and apply them to yourself when you are in the same scenario!
🧹 Come Volunteer! We LOOOOVE our volunteers here at Blarney! Spending time around the horses helping out is a great way to learn more about the equestrian world. Plus, we look to our volunteers when there is an extra horse to be ridden 👀 Dedication goes a long way, and if we see you here trying your very best, you are way more likely to get an extra ride than if you just ask to ride more horses!
🎥 Online Resources! There are countless online resources to watch or read to learn more about riding. Watching videos of top riders can not only improve your riding, but shows you what you can be working towards! Online books are great to learn more about the horses, and there are lots of other online resources you can utilize to improve your knowledge!
🫶🏻 Improve your Mental Game! Riding is a mental sport as well as a physical one. Your attitude is a big part of riding. Be coachable, take corrections and apply them. Be kind, to your equine partner, others at the barn, and yourself! Come to the barn ready to work hard and succeed every time, and you will see big changes in your riding!
Which of these resources are you going to utilize to improve your riding out of the saddle?
