There have been several EHV-1 outbreaks in Canada during 2025, with confirmed cases in Ontario (March, April, September) and Alberta (November). These outbreaks involve the neurologic form of the virus, also known as equine herpes myeloencephalopathy (EHM). One confirmed case in Alberta is linked to the same outbreak that began at a barrel racing event in Texas in November 2025.

The case is located in Red Deer County.
