Carleton County Animal Shelter

Carleton County Animal Shelter Adopt * Sponsor * Volunteer * Donate * Educate The Carleton County Animal Shelter was founded in 1995. Currently CCAS has a capacity to house 52 cats and 6 dogs.

Since then we have housed and re-homed hundreds of dogs and cats from all over western New Brunswick. CCAS is a no-kill shelter, meaning that animals will not be euthanized simply because of lack of space. Euthinasia is reserved for a last resort and is performed only when our veterinary care providers deem it necessary to prevent suffering. The demand of the community far exceeds those numbers so

we have to focus on other methods of helping stray animals outside of the shelter as much as possible. By networking with other shelters in the province, suppling pet food where needed and assisting in spay and neuter expenses we are trying to give as many ownerless pets a chance at survival until a permanent home can be found for each and every one. Keeping the shelter open is no easy task. The expense alone is mind-boggling, at $100,000 each and every year. It takes a team of individuals who are willing to work with the animals , raise funds and help try to educate the public on the plight of stray animals in our community. We need all of the help we can get and we welcome anyone who would like to lend a hand.

Yesterday, June 3rd, 2025, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our sweet boy Warehouse. 🤍

When we walked into his room on Monday, it was apparent that he wasn’t doing well at all - he could barely walk, eat, or move. We got him into the vet the day after where it was found out that he sadly would not recover.

We didn’t know Warehouse for long, but during his time with us, we knew he was ready to pass on and say goodbye. He was cuddled up in a staff member's arms purring when he made his final transition.

Warehouse was a timid cat from the moment we first met him but in the month we knew each other, he slowly came out of his shell and clung to our hearts.

It’s time to rest now, Warehouse 🤍

These two handsome boys were adopted over the weekend! 🐾💚

Cabbage and Tacoma didn’t come to us together but quickly became friends after their surgeries and vet work. When Tacoma was first surrendered, we thought he would need a lot of socialization to become adoptable but after meeting Cabbage his personality flourished!

We are ecstatic that our best boys were able to be adopted together and live out the rest of their days by each other's sides 🐾💚

Thank you for choosing to adopt Cabbage and Tacoma!

We often say it takes a village to keep us going…
But this village has stepped up in more ways than we could have ever imagined.

Recently two local businesses went above and beyond for us and we just want to express our heartfelt gratitude for all of their hard work cleaning up the property!

Thank you so so much,
Please support locally 💚💙

At our Adopt-a-thon with Global Pet Foods NB today, these cuties found their forever homes! 🐾💚

Costco and Free Sample were surrendered to us at the end of April by an owner who was struggling with an overcrowding situation. We ended up taking twelve of their cats who turned out to be darlings and quickly made room in our hearts☺️

Thank you to everyone who came by to visit us and support the shelter! It means the world to us 💚

This Saturday, May 31st, CCAS is hosting our second Adopt-a-thon with Global Pet Foods (North) in Fredericton!

We will have a handful of adoptable cats for everyone to meet and potentially take home that weekend (subject to application status).

While we do have dogs at the moment as well, we are taking their safety and well-being into consideration first and have decided to let them rest at the shelter for this event. During the summer we hope to do more dog-focused events but for now, this event will only be for cats!

This event will be held at GPF’s store located at 102 Main St, Fredericton from 10am to 2pm.

We can’t wait to see you there! 💚

Kewpie is having a whale of a time chilling on all these boxes! Now that he’s our office cat, he gets the luxury of rolling around on cardboard all day and lounging in bags of food 😊

Kewpie is available for adoption! He is around 3 years old and has had all of his vet work done. If you think he’d be a good fit for your home, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at (506)277-1104! 💚
