After a lot of time, thought, and some really difficult conversations… we owe you all an update.
The last time we posted was back in November when we shared that we had found a new location. Since then, many of you have reached out, called, messaged, and supported us…and we are so incredibly grateful for that.
The truth is, over the past few months, life took an unexpected turn.
Due to personal circumstances that we’re not able to publicly share, I (Manuelita) made the incredibly difficult decision to step away and head home to focus on my health, my family, and well being. This was not a decision made lightly. It came with a lot of tears, a lot of reflection, and a lot of heartbreak.
We also want to sincerely apologize for the silence. It was never our intention to leave anyone feeling ignored or without answers. We just needed time to navigate everything behind the scenes.
That being said… this isn’t just an ending. 🩷
If you’ve been part of the Perfect Pets family, you already know AJ. What some of you may not know is that after months of preparation, he is officially opening his own grooming salon: Happy Tails, right here in downtown Dawson Creek.

AJ has trained alongside me for over a year, and I can confidently say he is incredibly talented, dedicated, and ready for this next step. I trust him fully with the clients we’ve built relationships with, and I couldn’t be more proud of him.
Over the last few months especially, AJ has been a huge support to me behind the scenes. As a mentor, there’s something really special about watching someone you’ve trained grow into their own and step confidently into this next chapter. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see that transition and somewhere along the way, gaining a friend out of it too 🙂
We had big goals for 2026. We truly believed it was going to be our year. And I still believe that… it just looks a little different now. AJ, you’re still walking that path, and I have no doubt you’re going to do amazing things in your career 🎉
Keep going. Keep learning. Stay focused on your goals and your growth.
No matter where I am, I’ll always be cheering you on and sending you TikTok memes of bad dog grooms and weird cat videos and rainbow chickens 😂
We’re also so proud to share that Perfect Pets (both AJ and myself) was honored with the 2025 People’s Choice Award for being one Best Grooming Facility.That recognition belongs to BOTH of us and AJ has been a huge part of that success.
As bittersweet as this is, I’m so excited to see him take this and run with it.
If you’ve loved and supported Perfect Pets, I truly hope you’ll continue that support with AJ at Happy Tails. He’s going to do amazing things for this community.
As for me… this isn’t goodbye forever. Maybe one day Perfect Pets will reopen again in Calgary. But for now, this is where my path is taking me.
AJ I am so proud of you.
And everyone in this community…. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to every single one of you who trusted us with your dogs, supported our business, and became part of our journey. It meant more than you know.
