Nova Scotia SPCA - Dartmouth Shelter

Nova Scotia SPCA - Dartmouth Shelter Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming pets in need thanks to animal-lovers like you. We take in animals by appointment only so please call ahead. We can help.
(466)

The Nova Scotia SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health. We also follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space. Unexpected life situations happen and the SPCA strives to be approachable, non-judgemental and understanding. On average, healthy and friendly animals are adopted into loving families in less than two weeks! You simply have to ca

ll and arrange an appointment so the shelter can learn about what is the most suitable type of home for your pet. The appointment also allows the shelter to prepare a cozy space for your pet to make the transition as smooth as possible. We understand how difficult it is to surrender a pet and thank all owners who are able to make the best decision for their pet. To learn more visit: https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/animal-surrender/

We promised you some adorable photos, and we’re here to deliver! 🥳

We’ve got Magnet, who didn’t want to wear a costume this year but instead wanted to show off his spook-tacular Halloween house! 🎃

Then we’ve got some treats that we think everyone will want to take! Meet Lincoln, Landon, and Lydia! 🍬

Did one of our furry friends catch your eye? Furr-bulous news! You can learn more about them and their friends here: www.novascotiaspca.ca/adoptions/. ⬅️

Happy Howl-o-ween!!🎃

It’s a brew-tiful night for some mischief, and our furry friends are getting in on the action! 👻

To help you and your furry companion have a fun and safe Howl-o-ween, we’re giving you some tips and tricks! 😉

🐈‍⬛ Ensure your fluffy friend’s costume doesn’t have choking hazards!

🐈‍⬛ No candy for pets (especially chocolate)!

🐈‍⬛ Make sure your pets are wearing their tags and are microchipped (in case they run away).

🐈‍⬛ Keep your furry friends away from fire (Jack-O-Lanterns)!

🐈‍⬛ Dogs can be scared or stressed by costumes. Better to not approach a dog while dressed up in costume!

Please leave a photo of your furry friend in costume in the comments so we can all enjoy the cuteness. Or leave some other safety tips we haven’t included here in the comments! 🐾

Stay tuned to see our costumes later today! 🥸

We witch you a fang-tastic night! 🦇

Jacelen’s love for animals started at a young age. 🐾 So, it felt natural to go into a career where she could help them. Her first try left her discouraged, but she didn’t want to give up. When she found the Veterinary Assistant program, everything about it told her she had to try. Now a graduate of the Nova Scotia SPCA College of Animal Welfare, Jacelen is sure she belongs, and she’s passing it forward to others with a similar goal path. 💙

October is Mi’kmaw History Month, and this year’s theme was A’tukwemk aq A’tukowinu’k - Storytelling and Storytellers. As the month draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to recognize that reconciliation cannot be limited to only one month a year. Instead, it is an ongoing process that we need to embrace all year long.

Education is a key principle of reconciliation. We wanted to share some resources about where you can learn more about Mi’kmaw History Month and Reconciliation.

In honour of Halloween, our hosts sat down to discuss their favourite myths and legends about our furr-bulous felines! 🐈‍⬛

Available for Adoption! ✨✨

Meet Tulip and Lotus! 🌷🌺 They have a reduced adoption fee. 💵
They are bonded pair of cats waiting for their new family from the comfort of a foster home. 🏠
The shelter world can be a bit overwhelming to some kitties and these two have really bloomed with their current fosters.

This is what their foster has to say about them:

"Tulip shows her love for you with quiet affection, like rubbing and intertwining between your legs when you enter a room. Tulip is super smart and a curious gal when it comes to opening doors or getting into places you've blocked off!
She loves her cat tunnel and is as playful as her brother.
When she sleeps, she likes to tuck herself away into what she deems "hidden spots" you never know where you will find her napping next! She has had all her teeth removed, but you wouldn't know it, as she loves to eat any and all food offered!
Lotus is a friendly, vocal, curious boy who is very athletic. He loves to run, and he would appreciate some open floor space where he could really chase a toy. He takes the stairs at top speed and would probably enjoy a climbing structure as well. He is extremely good-natured (he even lets you pick him up and kiss him)."

All animals that come to the SPCA receive a full veterinary exam. In doing so, there were some discoveries made in regard to their health.
You can get more information on this by reading their adoption profile at the link below:
https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/how-you-can-help/adoptions/?animalid=2000297138

Both Tulip and Lotus are thriving and full of love. They’d do best in a calm home where they can snuggle, play, and enjoy the good life together. With a little extra TLC, these two will reward you with endless affection and companionship. 💕

If you are interested in meeting Tulip and Lotus, please fill out the adoption application at the link below: https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/cat-adoption-application/
Staff from the Dartmouth SPCA will be in touch to set up a meeting at their foster home.

If you are not ready to adopt yet or you are simply browsing for cuteness, you can always help by donating. Every little bit helps! We proudly follow no-kill principles and receive no government funding for animal care. Visit www.novascotiaspca.ca/donate to help save lives.
