⭐Staff Pet Profile⭐

Meet Maci and Archie! These two pups belong to our tech assistant Courtney.

Maci is a 7 year old cattle dog mix originally from Texas. She loves anything as long as shes moving! She's an agility star and is obsessed with her ball and off leash hikes. She is one smart cookie!

Archie is an 8 year old French Bulldog from Manitoba! His favorite thing to do is laze around in the sun. He is a true lapdog and is the perfect fit for any lonely lap. He loves mangos, ice cream and timbits and loves to go for walks in the wagon with his human brother.

It's BBQ season! 🍔🌭🥩

You might think a dog wouldn't be able to swallow an entire skewer full of chicken...you'd be wrong.

Thankfully we were able to use endoscopy to retrieve this from a patients stomach. As they were carefully grabbing the skewer some of the chicken slid right off the kabob back into stomach...I guess his efforts weren't totally in vain.

⭐Staff Pet Profile⭐

Never is an 8 year old Whippet! He was adopted by one of our technicians, Candis when he retired from breeding.

"He is the sweetest and best boy ever and he is much more cat than dog but he still loves coming camping and tagging along on adventures"

You can tell by his profile picture he is a majestic boy!

THIRTY-SIX!

Thats the number of condoms this patient ingested and, thankfully, vomited back up.

While this story may give everyone a laugh, foreign object ingestion can quickly become a serious emergency. Items like, socks, toys, underwear, and yes, condoms can cause dangerous intestinal blockages that may require surgery.

In this case his family knew what he had ingested and acted quickly, bringing him in right away for us to induce vomiting.

As we head into the warmer weather Ember has some reminders she would like to share 🌺

The summer months are historically a very busy time in the ER. In the month of May we saw over 900 patients. That is an average of 30 patients a day!

With that in mind it is important to remember we are not a first come first serve facility. As an emergency hospital we operate using a triage system to ensure the most critical patients receive care first.

You may have noticed the triage guide posted in our waiting room, which outlines how patients are prioritized. There may be times when we need to move to a temporary Priority 1 status. This occurs when patient volume and case severity exceed our current capacity, meaning we are only able to accept the most critical emergencies. Once our team has caught up or additional staff become available, we can begin accepting less urgent cases again.

Here are some things to remember when visiting the ER with your pet:

🌞Wait times can vary significantly depending on the number and severity of emergencies being treated. Our staff will do their best to provide updates and advise you if extended wait times are expected.

🌞Bringing a book, charger, snacks etc. can help make your wait more comfortable. We offer complimentary coffee, tea and water in our waiting area.

🌞It is always best to call ahead when possible to alert the team you are on your way so they can prepare accordingly.

🌞Just because there are no cars in the parking lot does not mean we are not busy. Often we have many patients receiving care in our treatment area.

🌞Our staff are here because they care deeply about animals and their families. Kindness and patience are greatly appreciated. Aggressive and abusive behavior will not be tolerated and could result in dismissal from the clinic.

🌞Our staff often take their well-earned vacation time to relax and recharge in the summer. While we do our best to fill those gaps there may be times that we are short staffed resulting in longer wait times.

We appreciate your patience, kindness and understanding as we work hard this summer to care for your pets!

Who knew a dog name Cujo could be such a sweetheart ❤

Like most puppies, this 5 month old Boxer doesn't always understand that not everything is edible. Thankfully Cujo was able to vomit the small toy he ingested.

Poor boy looks like he regrets his snack.

It's blackfly season! 🪰

After spending time outside in the yard, on the trail, or in the woods, you may notice small red marks or scabs on your pets belly, ears, or inside their legs. These are often blackfly bites. While they can look alarming, they are usually harmless and tend to be more itchy and irritating than dangerous.

Most blackfly bites do not require treatment and will heal on their own over several days. You can help keep your pet comfortable by limiting scratching and monitoring the area for excessive redness or swelling.

However, it's time to call the vet if your pet seems very uncomfortable, develops significant swelling, has trouble breathing or the bites appear infected.

We celebrated Vet Assistant Appreciation week this week with some swag and treats! 🎉

Many believe that working the front desk means answering phones and booking appointments but our VA team does so much more!

Our veterinary assistants are often the first friendly face you see and the calm voice you hear during stressful moments. They help keep our hospital running smoothly every single day through their knowledge, compassion, patience and kindness.

Each member of our team brings years of experience and a genuine love for pets and we are so grateful for everything they do.

Our hospital truly would not function without our amazing team of VA's! ❤❤❤

Markey has zero regrets after ingesting a latex glove.

Without intervention there was a risk the glove could cause an obstruction requiring endoscopy or surgery. The decision was made to induce vomiting and thankfully Markey gave up the goods.
