You might see these two, hard-working, polite young men around the salon when someone’s on holiday or when we are just shorthanded. Yes, you guessed it… they are my (Leanne’s) nephews I love to brag about. (John on the left, and Colton on the right) 🫶 💪🏼
They’ve been exposed to pet grooming since we started in our home so many years ago. With years of experience in bathing/drying, patience and knowing the DCG way. They make the perfect “fill-in men”. Thank you gentleman for always being so loving to all the animals that come in and out of this small, animal-loving business and the clients who continue to trust us. ❤️

✨Meet Alice!✨
She will be helping out around the salon, summer cleaning and is one of the best, most compassionate bather/driers we’ve ever had here. Thank you Alice for being you. ALL of the pups approve ❤️🐾
P.S.: She is Leanne & Jodie’s niece so you’ll be seeing her around the salon until the end of August/beginning of September before she heads back to school. (Literal family-run business🫶)

✨Here’s the fresh new sidewalk leading up to our doors thanks to the Village of Cumberland for the beautiful work.✨
Our clients, scooter/skateboarding kiddos and villagers appreciate it. For those of you who knew how lumpy, bumpy and broken this sidewalk once was, you’ll appreciate this one now 🫶❤️🐾
As you can see these paw prints were intentional (a special thanks to our neighbours for letting us) and to DCG’s mascot (Bute) for the perfect paw prints that will last forever 🐾

⛔️ Surprise!!! ⛔️
We are getting a new sidewalk… today! News to us but we do appreciate it getting done so thank you to the Village of Cumberland. ❤️
For all of our scheduled appointments for June 9th (Monday) we ask for our clients to come around to the back alley (this is a drivable access or foot access) and knock on our back door. If this isn’t ideal for yourself or your pet please call or text our salon phone number at 250-218-5209 to reschedule your appointment. This will not count as a cancellation so there won’t be any charge as this whole event is last minute.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. At this time we ask for no walk-in, or pop-in appointments today as we would love the boys to quickly move along with this job and not have any distractions. Also, to keep all of our clientele and their pets as safe as possible 🫶✨

Today is the day of Cumberland May days, the Doggy fashion show. $5 per entry with 5 different categories to choose from. We are one of the main sponsors along with (thank you so much guys!) ❤️🐾
This is a super fun event for all dogs and their human families. Please remember to keep your pup on a leash and to clean up after your 4 legged family member. Our donation is for the 1st place winner(s) who will receive a gift bag valued over $130 (includes a doggy reflective bandana, doggy bags, treats, waterproof doggy jacket and a 5 nail trim punch card)
Registration starts at 2:30pm, the show will start at 3pm at the village park. Let’s give back to the amazing community and show them how much fun we can be. Leanne’s daughter Farren & Leanne will be one of the judges for this rad event ❤️ see you all there, Rain or shine ✨

UPDATE

We at ISLAND ANIMAL HOSPITAL are open 6 days a week, Monday-Friday 730am-530pm and Saturday 9-5pm. Our hours have not changed.

We wanted pet parents in the surrounding area to note that CENTRAL ISLAND VETERINARY HOSPITAL 24HR located on metral drive, has notified us of their change in hours.

Staff refresh introduction: ✨ Meet Jodie, otherwise known as “the receptionist, the gatekeeper, the cookie lady, Leanne’s right-hand woman, the ringleader, the bookkeeper, the superwoman, rockstar, the coordinator, the best Aunty, the super mom, the shaker and mover.” amongst many others…✨
If you have not met the famous Jodie yet, you’re missing out! Jodie works Tuesday to Thursday and most Mondays and Fridays (depending on our grooming schedule) She’s able to make almost anything work and is an incredibly understanding and sympathetic human.
Jodie was born and raised here on the island where she calls Black Creek home. She was raised with all kinds of animals growing up as well as many different breeds of dogs. She now has a weimaraner dog named Dux and a British long haired kitten named Ivy. 💪🏼

Her hobbies include caring for 5 beautiful children while managing a full-time schedule of hockey/lacrosse practices and horseback riding lessons. If she’s not working here at DCG you’ll find her always moving and shaking with her family. 💪🏼 🏒 🐴
Oh, and she’s Leanne’s sister-in-law (yes, we are family) which puts the “family owned and locally operated” in place for this business. We work, thrive and love for the animals that come through our doors and to the humans at the end of the leash/or kennel. ❤️
Jodie is a massive part of why DCG is what we are today. So thank you Jodie for being so awesome and frankly fantastic at what you do. We all love you! If you ever wondered who the multiple-tasking, smiley person on the other end of the phone or behind the desk. It’s most likely Jodie. 👏 👏 👏
One last fun fact… Jodie hates her photo being taken so hence why all these photos are action/behind-the-scenes pictures as she doesn’t know I have them… hopefully she won’t kill me for this post. If you notice 10 malamutes leaving the salon in one day, you’ll know that she’s tried. 😂 -Leanne

Staff refresh introduction: (Finally) Meet Sarah G. (The cowgirl/farmgirl) she came to us in December 2024 where she recently relocated from Alberta with her beautiful daughter and husband. (Yes she’s part of the Gunter Comox Valley Family) ❤️
Sarah came to us with some experience in her belt with bathing/drying and prep work from another salon where she was volunteering her time. We are excited to say she fits in just perfectly with our DCG family. She’s currently enrolled in JKL (same as Kitana) to complete her theory work and has been apprenticing beside Leanne to complete her hands-on. At the moment she’s accepting bath and drys as well as all breed/size bath and tidies where she’ll be quickly excelling into full grooms.
When she’s not at the salon working away she’s looking after cattle/calving and helping around the farm with her little sidekick Reata and her 4 beautiful working border collie/border collie crosses. This girl may be petite but she’s strong and loves taking on big dog coats/challenges. Her ability to calmly talk it through with her dogs on her table, understand proper coat maintenance and have the muscle behind her to get through really tough jobs, makes her an asset to our dream team. 🐾
Currently, Sarah G. Is only in the salon 2 days a week so her availability is limited at the moment but we are hoping she’ll be able to add more hours as her schedule and family allows it. If you have a double-coated pup that needs a freshen-up, Sarah is your gal. Welcome! ✨

Staff refresh introduction: This is Kitana, she’s been with DCG for many many months, acing the bathing position under Leanne. While shadowing she quickly realized that grooming was her career of choice. Because of her kind, calm, understanding nature with the dogs/cats at DCG she is now being trained under our salon while she completes her accredited theory program. Kitana even got someone on one time with Sarah B. before she left so she’s got some great training behind her belt.
As you can see from her work, it shows. She’s officially acing bath and tidies on small to extra large dogs. Her schedule has been opening to successfully groom these types of breeds with Leanne and/or Cara’s helpful hands close by if needed.
And this is why we are so successful with so many dogs with special needs or fancy hairstyles. We believe in working together as a team and putting our heads, hands and hearts together when it’s needed so your pup has the best experience and most comfortable groom possible.
I’m incredibly proud to see where Kitana has come in the time she’s been getting hands on training. Her gifted eye and attention to detail is going to make her fly and become a necessity here at DCG.
