As the weather warms up, our gardens and parks are buzzing with busy bees! While bees play an important role in pollinating plants and supporting our environment, curious pets can sometimes get a little too close.
A bee sting can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort for your pet. Stings on the face, nose, mouth, or throat can be especially concerning, as swelling may interfere with breathing.
Supervising pets when outdoors, especially around flowering plants.
๐ Discouraging chasing, snapping at, or pawing at bees and other flying insects.
๐ถ Keeping dogs on a leash in areas with high bee activity.
๐ป Checking your yard regularly for nests or hives and contacting professionals if removal is needed.
Signs your pet may have been stung:
โข Sudden yelping or pawing at the face
โข Swelling or redness
โข Excessive drooling
โข Hives or facial swelling
โข Difficulty breathing (an emergency)
If your pet is stung and develops significant swelling, hives, vomiting, or trouble breathing, seek veterinary care immediately.
Let's work together to protect both our pets and our valuable pollinators. Bees are an important part of our ecosystem, and with a little caution, pets and pollinators can safely share the outdoors! ๐โค๏ธ๐พ
