July 11 - UPDATE: Togo is still missing and we are urging our community to continue to keep your eyes out for him. He went missing from Line 11 North, Oro Medonte, last week, but may have travelled farther by now. You may notice that we have disabled comments on all our posts related to Togo. While we are grateful to every person who has expressed their support, we need to focus our channels of communication on possible sightings and information that may help to bring him home.

UPDATE:

As of July 10th, we have disabled comments on this post to keep the focus entirely on the ongoing efforts to find Togo.
We kindly ask that everyone continue to follow the instructions and recommendations provided by the search and rescue volunteers – please don’t pursue or chase him.
We would like to ensure that search updates remain clear, so please contact the numbers below if you have any information or sightings.

We appreciate all of the community support. As of today, Togo has not been located. As a veterinary hospital, dog search and rescue is not something we have had experience with, so we connected with the Pawsitive Ground Search team on Friday. Our team shares a group chat with them and Togo's owners, allowing us to stay in touch in real-time. Pawsitive Ground Search has been so helpful in assisting us in building a strategy that will maximize our chances of tracking Togo down. They are experts in this type of situation and have supported us in setting up trail cams and advising on what to do and not do. This includes being mindful that this little dog is going to be very afraid, and so calling his name and doing grid searches could only send him further into hiding. They have asked us and community members NOT to go into the fields and forest calling his name, but to remain patient and support their attempts to lure him back to the location where he was last seen.
Our team has been putting all our energy and efforts into the search. On Friday, we created and distributed flyers to all the residents, farms, and businesses in the area and went door to door to ask the community to help search their properties. Over the weekend, we monitored phones, email, text messages and social in case of any leads while also contributing directly to the search efforts. We have been maintaining communication with our local humane society, the township, animal control, and other area veterinary practices. Our heart goes out to his family. If you have any information regarding Togo, you can contact us at 705-329-0216 or his owner at 647-909-4122.

URGENT: WE NEED YOUR HELP.

This is every pet parent’s and veterinary hospital’s worst nightmare. A patient is on the run, and we are working to find him. Our team has been searching alongside his owners, but we recognize that our area and the terrain do not make it easy. We are reaching out to our community to help us and his owners in getting the word out and be alert in case of sightings. Please check your properties, under decks and vehicles and inside outbuildings. He may be hiding. Last seen on Line 11, North, Oro Medonte.
We understand there will be a lot of questions around the circumstances, and we take full accountability for what has taken place. At this time, however, finding him is our only priority, and any time taken doing other things only distracts from this goal. We ask you to only comment if you have actually seen him, so that we can monitor this post as easily as possible. The majority of our team is out searching, and so we have limited resources to filter comments. NO negative comments, abuse or slander will be tolerated, and comments of that nature will be removed. We dedicate our lives to the patients we serve, and we work to minimize the risk of any kind at every turn. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in this situation despite that – and now we are focused on finding this beloved pet.
Call 647-909-4122 or the clinic 705-329-0216 with any tips.

What's summer without a roaring campfire and outdoor cooking? Just a reminder to enjoy these staples of summer with caution when our furry companions are around. Burns from a fire ember or a marshmallow roasting stick can happen easily with a curious pooch. Ingestion of BBQ grease can also be a risk for upset tummies and pancreatitis. More summer safety tips to come next week!

Fireworks can be extremely stressful and even dangerous for pets. Here are key safety tips to help protect your furry friends during the Canada Day fireworks displays:

* Create a Safe Space:
Set up a quiet, cozy area inside where your pet can hide, like a crate, bathroom, or interior room with familiar bedding.

* Keep Them Indoors:
Secure all doors, windows, and pet doors to prevent escape if they get frightened.

* Ensure your pet’s ID tag is secure and their microchip information is current in case they run off.

* Use Calming Aids:
Consider anxiety wraps (like Thundershirts), calming pheromone diffusers, or vet-approved medications if your pet is highly anxious. Contact us for more information if you think your pet may require medications to help keep them calm.

* During the fireworks, drown out the noise by playing white noise, calming music, or keep the TV on.

* Stay Calm during the fireworks - your pets pick up on your energy so speak in a calm, soothing tone and avoid fussing over them excessively, as it may reinforce fear.

* Distract them with toys and treats - chews, puzzle toys, or special treats can provide a welcome distraction.

* Monitor your pet for stress symptoms during or after the fireworks - look for ongoing signs of anxiety like trembling, hiding, drooling, or changes in appetite.

Please welcome, Dr. Cailin!
From tiny toe beans to wagging tails and everything in between, Dr.Cailin treats each pet like they’re part of her own family. Her warm smile and calm presence make her a paw-sitively perfect fit for our team!

"My passion for animals began early in life spending my summers on a hobby farm. As I got older, I was fortunate to be able to continue volunteering in that environment, which sparked a deeper interest in animal care and medicine. This journey ultimately led me to pursue a career as a Veterinarian.
When engaging with clients, my top priority is ensuring they feel heard, supported and never alone in caring for their pets. I strive to create a space where both pets and their people feel understood, comfortable, and valued.
Every day at the clinic is a chance to learn something new in this ever-evolving field. And I won’t lie, the kisses, tail wags and head butts from my patients are a pretty great perk too!
At home, I’m excited to be adopting a 6-year-old tabby cat named Argo, who I had the pleasure of working with while I was a research assistant at the University of Guelph.
The motto I live by is simple: “treat others the way you would like to be treated.” It guides how I practice medicine and connect with those around me."
– Dr. Cailin Richards, DVM
