Adoption News

Last week, on Wed. Aug 13, Moose was delivered to his new home to join Anthony, Julie, and their 2 children, on his New Beginning.
Sadly, Kelly wasn't able to post the news at that time, so I reached out for and update because we all could use a little good news today, and Julie sent me this.

Thanks so much for reaching out. First, my deepest condolences, Kelly has quite a legacy and wonderful reputation! What a force she was. My dream was always to have a animal rescue, it is the most heartbreaking yet rewarding journey. She will be missed greatly.

Life with Moose is amazing, he is such a wonderful boy, and he has fit in just great with our family. He is so smart and has already made great strides with some important commands of " sit, leave it, look, and down" and he is so eager to learn more. Our kids love running around the yard with him and he has some hilarious zoomies! My husband told me he is doing great on his walks and he is also learning how to be a perfect gentleman with door manners. He sleeps like a log (thanks to Chris) and we have maintained his 9pm bedtime in his crate and he sleeps right through the night. He is now 30 lbs and growing fast!

He does have quite the appetite for things that are not food, rocks, dirt, socks....but we keep close eyes on him. We are working slowly on his introduction to our cats as he is very excited and a lot of energy and they do not like him yet lol. He gives amazing cuddles and loves curling up on the couch with us and hanging out. We have only has 2 accidents in the house, and he even scratched on the door today to go outside. His favorite place is to sit by our front door and watch people/traffic.

I had surgery recently so I haven't been able to do much with him personally, my husband and kids have been doing all the hard work but his power snuggles have helped while im feeling yucky. Im eager to feel better and for things to return to normal so I can step up and really help get his training going.

Overall we adore him and we are so glad we had an opportunity to talk to Kelly and Chris and so grateful they have allowed us the amazing opportunity to love Moose.

Obituary for Kelly Anne Beatty
April 10, 1965 - August 17, 2025
Kelly Beatty passed away peacefully on August 17th at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, after a long and valiant fight with cancer in her 61st year. Kelly was the founder and owner of Ruff Start New Beginnings dog rescue in Colborne, ON for 15 years and with her husband Chris at her side rescued over 1912 dogs from Canada and the United States. Her determination knew no bounds or boundaries. No dog was beyond hope, rehabilitation, and a forever home which she proved time and time again. Born in Oshawa on April 10, 1965, she also lived in Quebec, eastern Ontario, San Francisco and Bowmanville, ON. Working at Home Depot in Bowmanville and loving her customers. As much as she loved her customers, her heart longed to be involved in dog rescue so they sold their home in Bowmanville and moved to three acres in Colborne and never looked back. Kelly worked tirelessly for her dogs, working with them, feeding, arranging transport, vet visits and fundraising with draws and comedy nights. She was a light in everyone’s eyes.
Loving wife of Chris, dear daughter of Irene Hayball (and partner David Barrett), Doug Speirs (and wife Marina) and daughter to the late Col. William F. Hayball. Predeceased by her grandparents Tom & Olive Speirs and Peter & Vera Salowski. Loving niece of Helen & Ian Smith, John & Fran Salowski and Les Salowski & Dayle Steenson. Daughter-in-law of Betty Beatty and the late Bill. Sister-in-law of Michael & Kim Beatty and aunt of Mary Beatty. She is also survived by many cousins. Kelly loved and was loved by many volunteers and friends that so unselfishly supported the rescue and who will continue on with her work.
Thank you to the doctors and staff of Oshawa/Cobourg Cancer Centres. Special thanks to Dr. Essak and Dr. Mulé for their kindness. The nurses and caring staff of of Ed’s House, Cobourg.

Earlier today Kelly Beatty earned her wings and my condolences to chris and all family friends followers and rescue communities. Theres also a pdf written by johnathen that kelly wanted posted ill share the link. Often when faced with our mortality we reflect on what mark/ legacy will i leave on this world and for kelly Ruff Start New Beginnings was exactly that..out of things ill miss the most...will be her humor no matter how bad things may have been and not being able to just chatter with her. See you on the other side my friend xo
