Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. ry, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

Sweet boy Ernie has been with us for almost seven months now! 😢

This smart and affectionate dog will do best with a family that will keep him active. Hiking, running, maybe even dock diving, this boy is up for anything! Ernie has a great handle on his basic obedience and is crate trained and house trained. Weighing 40 pounds, he is a great size to both join you on hikes and join you on the couch afterwards! With his joyful personality he is sure to bring so much happiness for years to come!

Any Leonberger lovers out there? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Rigby arrived with her pal Eleanor and these two are searching for their forever homes! They are a bit shy at first and appreciate slow intros to new people and places, but once they know you they will snuggle up (and cover you with drool!) They love spending time outdoors and hope their new owners will do some research about their breed!

This week’s Foster Friday is brought to you by Puck.

Puck arrived at the shelter back in August 2024 as a very scared guy. It took time for him to gain his footing and trust humans again. His confidence is growing every day with his foster family and is ready to find his Fur-Ever family. He will thrive in a quiet and patient adult-only home, especially with a canine pal to lean on!
Earning the trust of a shy animal is so fulfilling, and we know that Puck will reward you with a bond that’s as loyal as it is magical.

Esther is a sweet senior that arrived as a stray and is looking for her forever home. A quiet girl who is reserved at first, she slowly comes out of her shell and will reward her people with gentle affection. Esther considers herself a couch potato and is a tad curvy these days, likely a result of her Cushing’s disease, but she has begrudgingly agreed to the diet that we have lovingly put her on. This distinguished lady is looking for a quiet, calm home to match her personality as she continues through her golden years.
