Understanding your dog 🐾and listening to their needs creates bonds and trust. It also significantly reduces the risk of a bite!😨 Advocate for your dog in tough situations and do not bend to societal pressures that suggest dogs should tolerate everything we do to them. 🙄When you know where your dog will struggle, and set them up for success you not only create a more positive world🌎 for your dog but you keep your dog and everyone around them safe!❗️

Most bites are after someone has approached or cornered a dog. 🐶When dogs do not feel like they can escape they can feel threatened and bite.😡😡 The easiest way to prevent bites, is by making sure your dog has a choice in the interaction. Invite them to you, and ask for consent. Remember "Pet. Pet. Pause" and "Invites Decrease Bites". Dogs that have a choice are much less likely to bite.

Terminology Tuesday ~ Ladder of Canine Aggression

Understanding your dog’s body language is key to preventing bites before behaviors escalate!

The Canine Ladder of Aggression (created by Kendal Shepherd) shows how dogs signal discomfort long before they ever growl or bite.

Recognizing the early signs—like turning their head, yawning, or walking away—can help keep everyone safe and stress-free!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post on how pain can impact our dog’s behavior!
