Please give me a follow on my new fb page Peakside Pets

To the people who have been here from the beginning and to those just finding this page, thank you for being here.

For anyone new, I’m Maddy. Peakside Pets isn’t a facility or a big organization. It’s my home, my time, my resources, and my life built around caring for cats and dogs that need a second chance.

This isn’t the polished side of rescue. It’s the early mornings, the late nights, the hard decisions, the constant responsibility, and doing whatever it takes to give these animals stability, safety, and a real shot at a better life.

Some animals come in scared, shut down, or completely overlooked. They don’t need perfect, they need consistency, patience, and someone willing to show up for them every single day.

That’s what I do.

I share this journey so people understand the reality behind rescue, the importance of responsible ownership, and how much of a difference a small, supportive community can make.

If you’ve followed, supported, shared, donated, or stood behind this in any way, thank you. You’re part of every single success that comes out of here.

And if you’re new, welcome to Peakside. This is what I’m about.

⚠️Anybody recognize?⚠️

This guy was found in Darfield BC near Barriere BC.

He has lost his person.

Does anybody recognize him?

He is wearing a collar and has a couple distinct things about him. If claiming, proof must be provided.

Animal welfare should always come before politics.

I’ve had time to really think about the ostrich situation here in BC, and I can’t stop thinking about what those birds must have felt.
Politics, opinions, and authority aside, this was traumatic for them, and it didn’t have to be.

Ostriches are incredibly perceptive animals. They thrive on routine and familiarity. They recognize the sounds, smells, and people that make up their daily lives. When those things are suddenly taken away when they’re surrounded by chaos, strange voices, new environments, and fear it can cause deep stress and confusion.

They aren’t just “livestock.” They’re intelligent, sensitive birds who rely on consistency to feel safe.
To see them caught in the middle of human conflict and bureaucracy is heartbreaking. I understand laws and procedures, but there are ways to uphold them without traumatizing the animals in the process.

There needs to be an organization or system in place that steps in specifically for the animals when situations like this occur. People trained in animal welfare, behaviour, and handling should be the ones leading those efforts, not politics, not chaos.

This shouldn’t have happened this way. These birds deserved calm, compassion, and dignity.

We need more empathy in enforcement, more accountability, and a greater focus on the wellbeing of the animals themselves because they’re the ones who always pay the highest price when humans get it wrong. 🕊️

🐾 Lucky Update 🐾

Lucky recently had a little sleepover to see how he’d do in a new environment, and while he did great in many ways, we realized it just wasn’t quite the right fit.

He’s a wonderful boy who does fine around other dogs, but we’ve learned that he really thrives best when he can have his person all to himself. Lucky forms deep attachments and just wants to bond closely with his human.

Because of that, we feel it’s best for him to find a home with no other pets, where his person can work with him one-on-one and help him shine the way we know he can.

He’s such a loving soul, and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been cheering him on and helping him find his perfect match. 🏡❤️

This beauty is seeking a home where he will forever be the only cat. He needs somebody who knows cat behavior and will play with him and provide climbing areas and scratch posts to keep him stimulated. Please research the breed and his diagnosis. Please share so we can help him find the purrfect home. ❤️

From his owner:

Looking to rehome

Kuro is a 5 year old Norwegian Forest mix. I’ve raised him since he was 4 months old. I truly love the little guy but my lifestyle, my constant movement for work, is getting in the way of caring for him.

He has FHV (feline-herpes-virus), meaning he cannot live with other cats unless they too have FHV. He’s fantastic with dogs, plays with my mom’s golden doodles whenever we visit.

He’s neutered, caught up on shots, and see’s the vet regularly. His biggest behavioural issue is that he expresses his frustration by peeing on your bath mat.

He’s an indoor cat with lots of curiosity for the outdoors, but he lacks the survival skills to roam freely

I want a good home for him, I want an experienced and loving owner. He’s a gentle and loving creature, has never tried to harm anyone.

Please reach out if you’re interested, I really can’t give him the time and attention he deserves. Thank you

This is Bella.

Bella was an unclaimed stray. She was matted and thin but with brushing and good food she's getting back to health.

(I wish us humans took care of other humans like this when down and out. It would make the world so much nicer.)

She enjoys being groomed. Loves attention and is playful. She is being scheduled for a vet exam and we will go from there.

Welcome Bella.
