Today marks the national day of Truth & Reconciliation to commemorate the Indigenous children sent to residential schools. It is a day to raise awareness of the legacy of the schools and the horrors experienced by the survivors taken to these schools. This intergenerational trauma still continues to this day, and we hope that those who have been affected take this day to surround themselves with a support system and heal from their trauma. We urge allies to wear an orange shirt today and educate themselves on the meaning behind this day. Listen to and amplify the voices of Indigenous people, and remember that

This is also a gentle reminder that we are closed today, and will reopen on Tuesday, October 1st, at 9am. In the case of an emergency, please call the Abbotsford Valley Animal Emergency Clinic at 604-850-0911.

The best tool in the fight against excess weight gain and pet obesity is a measuring cup or a food scale. Unfortunately, many pet parents guesstimate how much food they should be feeding their pet, or fill their pet's food bowl to the absolute brim. Additionally, some pets are fed continuously throughout the day and their bowls are refilled several times a day. Studies have shown that feeding as little as ten extra kibbles of food per day can result in an extra pound of weight gain in felines and small breed canines per year. It is important to consult with your veterinarian when it comes to feeding and portion sizes for your pet, or simply checking and following the feeding guides on the back of many pet food bags. This, coupled with daily exercise, can help keep your pet happy and healthy, and lower their risk of becoming afflicted with pet obesity and other conditions associated with excess weight gain.

At home dental care and maintenance is imperative in ensuring your pet's teeth remain healthy. It helps keep their breath fresh, and can reduce the amount of dental cleanings, extractions, and anesthesia they may require in the future. Daily brushing can aid in the prevention of periodontal disease, and will keep your pet's mouth healthy (and fresh!) πŸͺ₯ 🦷🐾

🦺 MISSING PET ALERT 🦺

These two kittens were found by a good samaritan and brought to our clinic this afternoon. We are sharing their photos in hopes of finding their owner, as they came to us without any identification. Both kittens are female, approximately 12-14 weeks of age, and were found between Southside Church and Watson Park. If these are your pets, please contact us at 604-858-8198, or email us at [email protected].

We will be providing both of these sweet girls with plenty of love and care, but will have to release them into the care of the SPCA soon. At present, they are still in our care. We would be very happy if we are able to find their owner and reunite them with their family. ❀️🐾
