The P.E.I. Cat Action Team relies on volunteers and donors.

Today, we want to send a huge thank you to Ron and Linda Curtis.

They are holding a plant sale and donating the proceeds to three local animal welfare organizations, including CAT. They are also supporting Keeping Cats Homed and P.E.I. Wildlife Rehabilitation.

We cannot thank them enough for their generosity and community spirit.

Their plant catalogue is stunning, with several varieties of plants and flowers. To place an order, contact Ron and Linda directly at 902-887-2395 or [email protected]

Every purchase helps support Island cats. Thank you for participating.

Plant catalogue can be found here:

Plantstep.com is a website which offers flower software to track your plants including a hybridizer section and catalog for selling your plants.

The workshop is at 467 Brackley Point Rd., next to Island Auto Supply Ltd. Look for the dark grey one-storey house with white trim and an attached garage.

Also, CBC’s Land and Sea documentary program will be travelling across P.E.I. filming Cat Action Team events. The trapping workshop is the first featured event, and we hope for a strong community turnout.

Please come out, bring a friend, learn more about our work and help make this event a success. We would love to have your support.

Everyone loves kittens.

They are cute, cuddly and playful. They also need special care, especially kittens that have been born outside and are officially characterized as feral cats.

Kittens can be born anywhere, at any time of year, and a mother cat will sometimes have more than one litter per year. But spring is still an especially noteworthy time for kittens, and a great time to be thinking about the benefits of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).

Cat Action Team has noticed an increase in the number of feral cat reports, and our waiting lists are the longest they have been in the last five years.

As the earth comes to life all around us, we are asking the public to think about the hundreds of new kittens being born this spring and how receiving proper veterinary care and living in a monitored colony will vastly improve their lives.

It’s time to have your say. The Cat Action Team’s annual general meeting is coming up on Sunday, April 12. The meeting will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Stratford Town Hall’s Southport Room at 234 Shakespeare Dr.

Like other non-profits, the AGM will include an election of board members and presentation of two annual reports. This includes a financial report from the treasurer and general report on organization affairs from the chairperson.

For the board election, only dues-paying members who paid dues before Dec. 31, 2025 will be able to vote or run for the board of directors. We will also collect dues ($10) for 2026.

The board is made up of seven members, four of which are up for renewal and a vote at the April AGM. Terms are for two years.

There are also four officer positions open, but the board decides this after new members are elected. While members do not run for a particular officer role, they can indicate an interest in the position on their nomination.

Those interested can self-nominate using the attached form. Please do not nominate another person. The deadline is April 4, 2026.

If you are unable to attend in person, contact CAT’s treasurer, Beverly Hillier at [email protected] to arrange a proxy vote. The deadline for this is also April 4. See attached form for full details on officer positions and more.

A feral cat colony can take many forms: a barn, a shed, a box. But the most important part is having a helpful person to monitor the cats and keep up on their feeding, shelter and spaying/neutering.

In P.E.I., the Cat Action Team does that work, all through volunteers.

Without programs like CAT, the health of a colony can quickly degrade from disease, fighting and rapid population growth. Your donations help us respond to more calls so we can keep the Island's feral population small and healthy.

Today’s pictures are feeding time at a couple colonies the team is
currently monitoring. In the second, the cats are politely waiting their turn outside the feeding station.

Even if you don’t know the Cat Action Team’s work with feral cats, you may have seen our much-loved catnip mice at locations across P.E.I.

These cat toys have been our signature fundraiser for the last 25 years. Entirely handmade, volunteers devote hundreds of hours every year making thousands of the cute, organic catnip-filled mice.

The toys come in countless fun patterns, with a tail and ears for cats to grab onto. Cats love to play with the mice, and pet parents get the joy of spending time with their cats while also helping community animals

If your business would like to help us by selling catnip mice, or if you are interested in volunteering to make or distribute them, please email [email protected]

You can find CAT catnip mice all over P.E.I. for a donation of just $3.00. Locations include:

Did you know that our colony caretakers feed hundreds of feral cats across the island every day?

The long-term success of a Trap-Neuter-Return program depends on monitoring, and that means plenty of work looking after colonies for volunteers.

A colony forms whenever cats find or are provided with shelter and food. Once the cats are trapped, neutered and returned to their colony, Cat Action volunteers feed the colony, check on their health and keep a lookout for new cats or kittens that may have joined the group.

This continued involvement ensures that community cats have safe and healthy lives. Watching for new members of the colony means volunteers can also trap and neuter those latecomers, which keeps colony numbers low.

Food donations are another key piece of Cat Action’s work. Many of our colony caretakers donate food themselves, but we also rely on a constant influx of food donations from community partners like Ren's Pets in Charlottetown, along with concerned citizens like you.

If you would like to donate food, please email us today at [email protected] and keep our kitties fed through the winter.

Today’s pictures: CAT board member Shante Zapf outside of Ren's Pets in Charlottetown, and a food donation box. Please note: Some of the donations in the box shown are for puppies. This is ok for community cats.
