October 27 is a special day within the Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) tradition a time to honor the spirits of our beloved pets who have passed. 🐕🐈

On the night of October 2t, they say that the spirits of animals return for a moment to the places and people they loved. So if you feel a warm presence near you tonight, think of it as your loyal pet coming to visit. Set out their favorite things, whisper their name, and remember them with love. ❤️🐾

While Día de los Mu***os spans several days of remembrance, this day is reserved just for them, the loyal companions who once filled our homes and hearts with love.

Many families create ofrendas (altars) decorated with their pets’ favorite toys, treats, photos, collars, and candles welcoming their spirits back home, if only for a moment.

Some even leave bowls of water or cozy blankets to comfort their souls after their long journey.

​In 2014 we started baking pumpkin-based dog treats to feed to our dog Spot (pictured above left). She was really sick. She had stopped eating. She’s been a sick puppy since we got her. Out of desperation, I heard pumpkin was good for their bellies, so I made some pumpkin treats and she loved them. The treats calmed Spot’s stomach, which made HER want to eat dinner. The treats didn’t cure her. I’m not suggesting that at all. They just kind of brought her around. Spot still has her ups and downs, but is doing a lot better now than she was a few years ago. And she’s still a fan of the pumpkin-flavoured treats.

​Now we sell those pumpkin treats at the Charlottetown Farmers’ Market on Wednesday and Saturday in spring to fall months and at Blue Ribbon Pet Supply. We sell those treats and many other pet products out of our home year round. I measure dogs and make custom jackets personalized to suit your tastes. The dogs come to my home, and sometimes I go to theirs to get measured!
