We welcomed in a new intake Pidgey after being found drowning in a backyard swimming pool to be rescued then attacked by a dog. Now she’s resting with us till she’s back on her feet and able to fly. She has a broken keel and some feather damage.

ATTENTION: Great Lakes Smallmouth anglers please be on the lookout for lip tagged smallmouth. If you happen to catch one, please leave the tag in place, record the following and then release the fish. The info you need is the length, weight, tag number and approximate location of catch. This will help our biologist track the movement of the Great Lakes Smallmouth population. You can report the info on the DNR website, or get the info to your regional fisheries biologist. Please share with all of your fellow Great Lakes Smallmouth anglers. Thank you and have a great day everyone!!

Foster Update on Cats

05/27/2024

From a local gardener:
This tick has been on display for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container without any additional feeding, she laid eggs. This demonstrates how long a tick can remain dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember, ticks become active again in the fall, so continue with preventive measures.
If you encounter a small pile of jelly-like balls in your garden, act immediately! These are tick eggs and they're set to hatch soon. The right side of the image shows the life stages of a tick, for your reference.
Either set them on fire or destroy them by soaking in isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to wear gloves if you handle the nest, as it contains hundreds of tick eggs that will hatch in a few weeks. I believe it's important to share this post because tick bites can be dangerous.
Stay safe and informed to protect yourself and your garden from these tiny but dangerous creatures!
