Happy Thursday Dog Lodge Family!

Nicole here to let you know I’m officially starting my Maternity Leave! Baby isn’t here - Yet! But we are hoping he’ll be here any day!

I have complete faith in my Husband and our team of staff as they take over The Dog Lodge so I can spend a few [much needed] weeks snuggling and loving up our 2, soon to be 3, little boys!

Even so, please bear with us and allow for some grace as we transition me out of The Dog Lodge at the start of our busiest season of the year!!

We thank you all for your love and support while our family enjoys this new season becoming a family of 5! ♥️🐾

Your friendly reminder that things fill up fast for summer holiday’s here at The Dog Lodge!

Things will likely fill up a smidge faster than normal as Brett and I are expecting Baby Boy number 3 by the end of June *see picture of Cooper snugglin’ the belly 🥹*

As such we will not be running ourselves at Max Capacity this summer, and you will be seeing more of our lovely staff during the month as we give ourselves time to adjust to being a family of 5!

As always, we can never say thank you enough for your understanding and continued business! We are blessed to get to do this as a family every day 🥰

There are many moving parts to The Dog Lodge!

Behind the scenes it’s more than just playing with pups and picking up p**p 💩

After each dog goes home and before a new pup can show up, we do a deep clean of each room.
It’s disinfecting water dishes and food bowls. It’s sanitizing dog beds & washing blankets.

This process used to be a little faster before this watermelon arrived in my belly and I acquired 2 Jr. Cleaning Assistants, but that is also the beauty of The Dog Lodge, living on site and being a family run business! ☺️

Yes, our job is easy: take care of dogs 🐶

But our job is far from simple:
Feeding dogs 🍖
Medicating dogs 💊
Playing with dogs 🎾
Cleaning up after dogs 💩
Updating clients 💬
Checking for vaccines 💉
Laundry 🧺
Dishes 🧼
Mopping 🧽
Sanitizing 🦠
Treats 🍬
Knowing who has allergies 🤧
Knowing who gets along with who 🫶🏽
Knowing who will fight over toys 🥊
Knowing who’s at risk of heat stroke 🥵
Knowing who can be outside in -30 🥶
When can the kids work with us and when is that too stressful on the dogs 👦
Dogs that are agressive with Men 🧔🏽‍♂️
Dogs that are timid of women 👱🏽‍♀️
Rescues with unknown history and lots of anxiety 😦
Dogs that can climb fences if left unattended 🧗

The list goes on and on..

Don’t get me wrong, we love every minute of it! But it makes comments like this touch our hearts in a special way knowing the hard work is valued by you - our clients ❤️❤️❤️

We moved into the suite on January 31st!

It’s been a big haul, and we couldn’t have done it without some very important people!

To our parents for supporting and helping every step along the way

The number one questions we’ve been asked since announcing the move into The Dog Lodge is “isn’t that going to be loud!?” 😂

The honest answer is - if we’re doing our job properly, no, it won’t be loud at all!

*disclaimer - the loud one at the end is our dog 🤦🏻‍♀️ and she’s the loudest of the bunch whether at The Dog Lodge or not! 🫠*

The true heart of what we do is to have dogs relaxed, comfortable and played out for as much of the day as we can, so that their rooms are their own, safe, quiet resting place between play sessions! This often means that when pups are in their rooms, the building is quiet! 🥰

Of course there’s always the initial excitement and barking when we first get in there to get a playtime session going, but for the most part, we are confident the noise level won’t be a problem! 🐾 ♥️

Today marks 1 year since our family took on The Dog Lodge! ☺️

My parents were being faced with a tough decision, and although I had told them I wasn’t coming back after my Mat Leave with Paxton (because I couldn’t manage a dog lodge with 2 kiddos) I really wanted to help.
I remember Brett coming home for lunch and I asked him “So, what do you think about quitting your job and running The Dog Lodge with me?”
And his answer wasn’t “absolutely not” and well, the rest is history!

And who would have thought we’d like it so much, we decided to live IN The Dog Lodge a year later 😂

In case you need the encouragement to take the leap of faith today - here’s your sign.
It may just pay off and be better than you ever imagined!

I feel like the fun is only beginning!

Watch to the end to hear Theo tell you what’s happening out at The Dog Lodge!! Yes - We will be LIVING on site! *more pictures in the comments!* The old groom shop and The old office are being converted into our new home and we will be moving in February 1st! We’re excited to be that much closer to work, to the pups we love and care for, and to be able to continue to be a “work from home” family and keep our boys close - we truly feel this move is just going to add to the “second family” type care we aim to offer here to our furry clients. Lots of on the couch, In home (maybe even In the bed) snuggles coming up for our pup clientele in our near future!! 🥰

One of the best things about working at The Dog Lodge is getting to enjoy various breeds and the temperaments and traits that come along with them!

Whether you have a purebred, or a rescue mix, there are specific and unique breed traits your dog will have!

I'll go first!
Our 'big girl' Brooke is a Staffordshire Terrier Mix - Terrier means she has a significant prey drive!
This makes walks a task, but keeps squirrels, mice and all other unwanted critters away from my yard!
