🌺 HUMMINGBIRD ARRIVAL HAS BEGUN 🌸
One of the true signs of spring has finally arrived in parts of Southern Ontario… the return of the Ruby-throated hummingbird!
In the past few days, there have been multiple sightings along the Lake Erie shoreline, with reports now extending north into the Greater Toronto Area, according to Hummingbird Central.
That means migration is right on track, as these tiny birds typically begin arriving in Southern Ontario between late April and early May after making an incredible journey north from their winter home in Central America.
Ruby-throated hummingbirds travel thousands of kilometres each spring. After such a long trip, they are eager to refuel, which is why putting feeders out early can make a big difference.
If you’re in Central or Eastern Ontario, you’re likely still about a week or two away from your first sightings. Now is a great time to get feeders cleaned, filled, and ready to go so you don’t miss their arrival.
As temperatures continue to warm and more flowers begin to bloom, sightings will become more widespread over the coming days and weeks.
