Im going to keep promoting stryker and nothing else until hes gone. Hes a fantastic dog that just needs a firm, loving and consistent handler.

Obedience is easy and as long as you monitor him with other dogs and step in when necessary, there isn't any issues. But if you were to "let the dogs figure it out" a fight could happen. Stryker just needs to know when hes being too rough during play, other than that hes a super easy dog that just hangs out the grand majority of the day.

Stryker is always trying to get bruce to play. The odd time bruce will oblige him for up to 10 minutes maximum.

Stryker and bruce are becoming good friends, its important to allow this high level of arousal under control instead of attempting to force calmness.

Mr Rudy is a young doodle mix that im doing off leash obedience with and getting rid of his reactivity. This is my 3rd lesson in total now and this lesson was impulse control.

I posted day 2 that stryker was trying to fight bruce. Its now officially been a week since I got him and bruce and him are getting along now. Its been 48 hours since a growl or nip has been attempted by stryker. All of which were caused by bruce walking by stryker, I punished and counter conditioned the aggression to show him an alternative avoidance response, which was walking away when uncomfortable. Hes now finally creating space instead of biting.

No I didnt let the dogs figure it out, I stepped in and showed stryker what is not acceptable and what is. It would have been a bloody war between these two if they fought, dont ever trust a trainer that sets dogs up to fight and calls it training.

Mr strykers personality is coming out more and hes talking alot now. He slept thru overnight in the crate with about 95% reduced stress and will go in the crate on command after I counterconditioned him yesterday. He still whined for a few minutes then went to sleep no problem. The first night he screamed, bit the crate and was extremely stressed for about 6 hours straight.

Not rushing him, just walking, playing and giving love it what leads to this reduced stress. Take your time with rescue dogs and you'll be surprised how quickly they can adjust. This of course doesnt apply to all rescues, some need much more time to adjust.

Mr stryker has been here just under 24 hours so far. He's a very sweet boy but has attempted to fight my dog bruce a few times, he'll try to hump bruce, bruce will try correct the behavior and stryker doesnt accept the correction. This is the only thing im punishing so I can keep him free in the house without separating him and bruce all day which also prevents fights altogether.

I am NOT letting the dogs "figure it out", I am establishing clear boundaries between the dogs both must accept, show the dogs the way instead of expecting them to know what you want.

My new foster from niagaradogrescue Mr striker arrived last night. He walked in like he owned the place initially but had major stress in the crate overnight. Im not doing any training for the next week, im only focusing on getting him used to my house, family, the crate and my dog Bruce. So far him and Bruce are doing great and hes sweet to all people and dogs, the new environment is just stressing him out so I am solely focusing on that.

Rushing obedience is a waste of time and could lead to more stress, striker needs predictability more than anything. Trying to teach new concepts during stress is a horrible idea, beware of trainers who jump immediately into rewarding/punishing behaviors instead of focusing on the emotions of the dog first and foremost.
