I am happy that main stream trainers are talking about nutrition now!
Finally!
You are what you eat !
We know that with humans, eating bad, diets consisting of mainly ultra processed foods, can affect us negatively. It can affect our skin, our sleep and our health. So many health problems are caused by a bad diet in humans, obesity, heart disease, allergies, joint problems and behaviour problems and more.
We know the fix is many times, eating more single whole foods, more proteins, more fruits, more vegetables, less UPFs. We know that moving more is also key and getting a better night sleep. All of us can control what we put into our bodies, within reason….
. did you know that dogs can’t ! You are in control of what goes into your dogs body, you are in control of what they eat and making sure they are being exercised fully.
Poor nutrition in dogs just like with humans, can lead to behaviour issues, can lead to health problems, can lead to lack of sleep and the cycle goes round and round.
If your dog is carrying extra weight, that makes them uncomfortable, if your dogs diet doesn’t agree with them, it can causes skin issues, a**l glad issues, ear problems just to name a few, this can make them uncomfortable. Poor nutrition and/or lack of exercise can lead to less sleep, which can lead to them being restless, which can lead to behaviour problems not to mention the related health issues.
So what’s the solution, for me, it’s simple, it’s whole foods. A raw food diet is king when it comes to dogs or at the very least a diet that contains very few ingredients and doesn’t have lots of additives. The key is also making sure your dog is getting enough exercise. Most adult dogs need between 1-2 hours exercise a day outside the house. They also need to be placed in their bed or a crate afterwards so they learn to switch off. Minimum 2 hours. This over time, will bring back more natural balance in your dog, where they naturally switch off after exercise and things like exercises barking, separation anxiety, destructive behaviour to make a few things, improves.
Proper diet, like raw food can benefit your dogs health and make them much happier, healthier and more content.
Exercise + Decent Diet + Sleep = happy dog.
