On June 16, 2009, Megan Coleman started with us in daycare.
Seventeen years later, she's still here.
She has moved through so many roles over the years and completed her DDT (Dogma Dog Trainer) certification along the way. Her dog Jethro became one of our very first mentor dogs. These are older, settled dogs who help new or nervous dogs learn the ropes and feel safe, and he was a pro. We often joked that we could leave him to supervise the groups on his own because he had such a skill at keeping everyone settled and breaking up conflict before it happened. Jethro isn't with us anymore, but Megan now shares her life with cuties Bogie and Maisie.
A few years ago, personal challenges meant Megan needed to slow down. She now works part-time and has found a home helping run KinderPups and helping as needed. She still lights up every time she's in with the dogs and has creative ways to fill their days.
We didn't lose her when life got harder. We found a way to adapt together.
Leading the way for a new way of doing things doesn't mean you always get it right. We have made mistakes along the way. We focus on progress over perfection, always learning and adapting as we go, even now, twenty years in.
People come and go in any business. That's normal and it's fine. But some people trust the process. They stick with you through the slow seasons and the chaotic ones, through the changes and the growing pains, and they grow alongside you the whole way.
Megan is one of those people. Steadfast through all of it. That kind of consistency is rare and I appreciate her more than she probably knows.
Seventeen years is a long time to stay anywhere. It's an even longer time to stay somewhere and still genuinely love it.
I think about what that kind of loyalty actually means. It's not just about a paycheque. It's about loving what you do, feeling like your work matters, and trusting that the people around you will adjust when life asks something different of you.
Thank you, Megan, for 17 incredible years. Here's to many more. π
