Our Internal Medicine team performs a range of gastrointestinal (GI) procedures to aid in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the digestive tract. Here is an example of one.

Gastric polyps are benign (non-cancerous) growths that develop from the lining of the stomach. These are fairly common in cats; they may be incidental and not cause any symptoms. However, when they become large enough and are located near the pyloric sphincter, the opening between the stomach and small intestine, they can interfere with normal stomach emptying and lead to vomiting or regurgitation.

In this case, the polyps were removed using a minimally invasive procedure called an endoscopic snare polypectomy. This technique allows the growths to be removed without the need for major surgery.

Prophylactic BOAS surgery is an early corrective procedure that aims to improve airflow before severe airway changes develop. By addressing airway narrowing early, some dogs may experience improved comfort during daily activities, exercise, and warm weather.

Signs of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) can include noisy breathing, snoring, exercise intolerance, gagging, and difficulty coping with heat.

Many owners don't realise their dog's breathing isn't normal because the signs can develop gradually and may seem typical for the breed. Early evaluation can help identify airway concerns before they become more advanced.

Dr. Becky Valentine DVM, DACVD© offers minimally invasive laser surgery, often with same-day discharge and no external sutures. This approach can reduce tissue trauma and support a comfortable recovery process for many patients.

Want to learn more about BOAS and treatment options for your dog? Visit PetDerm.ca and speak with your family veterinarian about a referral to our team today. We're here to provide clear, honest guidance and help you make informed decisions about your pet's airway health.

Time for a ear gremlin eviction! This small pup had some very unwelcome guests hiding deep in their ear canals... giant balls of wax that had quietly taken up residence over time!

Using transcanal otoendoscopy, our team gently flushed out these waxy squatters and gave those ears the fresh start they deserved.
The result? Cleaner ears, improved comfort, and one less place for ear gremlins to hide.

Now we'll focus on prevention and long-term ear care to help keep those ear canals healthy and comfortable for years to come.

We owe you an apology for the recent radio silence — and a heartfelt thank you for your patience.

We’ve been busy growing in a way that allows us to better support you and your pets. We’re excited to introduce the newest members of our cardiology team:

Dr. Lyndsay Kong DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), Lindsey Strang Cardiology RVT, VTS (ECC), and Mackenzie Parker (Cardiology TA).

They’ve already hit the ground running — even kick-starting their time at PetDerm with a very special patient. Lola the wallaby from hopped in for an echocardiogram and quickly won over the team with her calm and friendly nature.

With their expertise, we’re able to offer even more compassionate, collaborative care! We’re so pleased to have them here — and we can’t wait to support you and your pets every step of the way.
