Watching this guy come out of his shell has been an amazing experience.

From timid, lacking confidence, not being sure if affection was safe or not….to full of life, sass, wiggles, personality and so much love….its been an honour helping him find his place in the world.

There couldn’t have been a better dog sent to us after Ludo passed. We really truly needed each other to open our hearts up to love again 🥹🖤

I never understand why people buy these ultra processed artificial treats for their dogs when they can make something this simple instead. One quick look at the ingredients and you’ll usually find a bunch of inflammatory fillers and additives 😩

This Kong filler contains things like soybean oil, carrageenan, caramel color, preservatives, and vague “natural flavors.” A lot of these ingredients are used for shelf life and palatability… not because they actually benefit your dog.

Soybean oil is a highly processed inflammatory seed oil. Carrageenan has been linked to gut irritation in some animals. Caramel color serves zero purpose other than making the product look more appealing to humans. And “natural flavor” can mean almost anything.

Meanwhile, I can prep a mix in 2 minutes using ingredients that actually offer some nutritional value 👏

My go-to combo:
• Plain low-fat Greek yogurt
• Natural almond butter
• Manuka honey

Greek yogurt provides beneficial probiotics for gut health. Natural almond butter gives healthy fats and makes it extra satisfying and enriching in the Kong. Manuka honey has natural antibacterial properties and can be supportive for the immune system and gut in small amounts.

I usually premix a container and keep it in the fridge so I can quickly stuff a Kong for the next few days instead of reaching for processed sprays and fillers.

One important note: ALWAYS check your nut butter ingredients. Some contain xylitol (sometimes labeled birch sugar), which is extremely toxic to dogs and can be fatal even in small amounts. Your nut butter should ideally just contain nuts and maybe salt.

Also, every dog is different and has their own unique set of dietary requirements, restrictions, etc., so always make sure to consult a professional, unless you are certain that it is appropriate for your pup! ☺️🐾

Ludo started in therapy when he was around 10 years old. Not because I saw any major signs of decline or pain, but because I knew as a large breed dog that those things were inevitable, and I wanted to stay ahead of it.

Water therapy, laser, acupuncture, exercises… Those all became part of our regular routine. I know beyond a doubt that they not only helped prevent rapid decline in his senior years, but they also helped tremendously when s**t did happen. Between the ages of 10 to 15, Ludo had a few strains, two neck/disc injuries, a torn CCL, and eventually DM. Although there wasn’t much we could do to stop the progression of DM, we absolutely slowed it down. As for the other issues, they were all treated with a conservative approach, resulting in faster recovery, and also significantly less expense from surgery, etc.

People may shy away from prevention as it is usually an additional expense, but it will save you a lot of money and heartache long-term. It’s definitely something all senior pet owners should consider in order to support their dogs quality of life as they age 🤍

miss you guys 🥹🙏🏻
