✨ Cats are masters at hiding what hurts ✨

This is an ingrown nail — something I see more often than you’d think. It’s easy to miss just how long a cat’s nails have grown until it’s too late and this happens.

This is most commonly seen in elderly cats. As cats age, their nails often grow thicker and faster, making them more likely to curl and grow into the paw pad. This can be extremely painful for your kitty.

Please know: this is not your fault. Cats are absolute ninjas when it comes to hiding pain.

As your cat gets older, frequent nail trims become especially important to help prevent this from happening and to keep them comfortable and mobile. 🐾🐈‍⬛️

Matting Does NOT Mean You Failed Your Cat ❗️

I see so much guilt around matting — and I want to say this clearly:

Matting happens for many reasons, including aging, arthritis or reduced mobility, coat texture changes, illness, stress, seasonal shedding, or cats who no longer tolerate brushing.

Even the most attentive, loving owners can end up here.
What matters most is what you do next — not blaming yourself.
Some mats can be managed gently. Some need professional grooming. Some situations need to be handled slowly and thoughtfully.
