Back in January, Ms. Johnson from Timothy Christian School approached the zoo about a project that her class was starting, inspired by their fall field trip to our zoo in 2025. All of her students were extremely excited to pick individual animals that they had met in 2025, from kangaroos, to lions to Burmese pythons, and learn more about their physical attributes, habitats and biological roles. Then, in partnership with the zookeepers, the class spend the last 5 months, learning, preparing and presenting their projects.

Yesterday, the class attended the zoo with their grade 6 buddies and set up their display boards at each animal habitat, where they spoke to guests about all the information they have learned on their animals.

The class also hand-made reusable calendars, which they sold to their school community and zoo guests. All of their raised funds were presented to Henny Stallmann, Twin Valley Zoo’s founder and owner, to contribute to continuously enhancing our animal care.

It is moments like these where we can truly recognize the impact that our facility has on education and inspiring young minds. Thank you Ms. Johnson and Timothy Christian School students for showing your support of Twin Valley Zoo and truly delving into your projects and the experience.

Twin Valley Zoo would like to remind everyone it's the time of year when turtles go to lay their eggs, this unfortunately means it's also the time of year you will find turtles crossing roads. Please always stop and help turtles cross the road when you safely can, and remember to always take them in the direction they are facing!

📸 Photographed animal- common snapping turtles

The last snapping turtle photographed here is ambassador snapper Gonezo. Gonezo is often featured in our keeper conversations, taking place every weekend and during class field trips, where you can learn more about turtle road safety and their ecology.

Fun fact- Big cats enjoy scratching posts just as much as domestic cats 🐈🐅

The reason behind this behaviour remains the same across all feline species, which includes marking one’s territory with scent glands, maintaining good nail health and stretching/ exercising.

Amur tiger Laertes prefers his scratching post made of telephone poles, rather than your traditional sisal rope and cardboard.

Come celebrate Victoria Day, May 18th 2026, with us from 9am-6pm.

We will also have $5.00 face painting located near the play ground (10am-4pm) 🎨🖌️
