Clarence Update 💔
Many of you will remember Clarence, the gentle senior soul who was found this summer abandoned at a highway rest stop, tied to a picnic table with just a bag of food and a container of water. Despite how his story began, Clarence has done nothing but show love, softness, and trust.
Last month, he moved into a foster home where he quickly settled in and proved himself to be 100% a good boy; respectful with the other dogs, full of affection, and eager to soak up every bit of love offered. Everyone who meets him is amazed that anyone could have let this sweet old man go.
Recently, Clarence’s foster mom discovered a large, palpable mass in his abdomen, and x-rays confirmed our fear: Clarence has a large splenic mass.
Our shelter team, together with his foster mom and our veterinarian, carefully discussed all the options. Given his age and some other existing health issues, we ultimately decided the most compassionate choice would be to allow Clarence to live the remainder of his time in comfort rather than pursue surgery with a difficult recovery and no guarantee of meaningful benefit.
So, Clarence will remain exactly where he is now — in the home he has grown to trust, loved by the foster family who already cherishes him. He will stay with them as a palliative foster, surrounded by comfort, familiarity, and joy. We will monitor him closely and ensure that his days continue to be happy and pain-free.
Clarence still has good days ahead of him. He’s got pep in his step, enjoys playtime, and spends his days lounging in warm, soft beds, knowing he is safe and deeply loved — with as many treats as his heart desires. 🥰
We don’t know how long this chapter will last, but we do know that it will be a chapter filled with dignity and joy; the very things every senior dog deserves.
If you would like to help support Clarence’s palliative care, donations can be made by etransfer to [email protected], or directly to Neepawa Vet Clinic.
Thank you for loving Clarence along with us. 🧡
