đž Coyote Mating Season Reminder đž
From late January through March, coyotes enter their mating season. During this time, you may see or hear coyotes more often, including during the daytime. This is normal behavior as they look for mates and establish territories. Simple steps can help prevent conflicts and keep everyone safeâpeople and pets included.
â
Help prevent conflicts:
⢠Keep your yard clean: secure garbage, remove fallen fruit, and clean up dog f***s
⢠Never feed coyotesâfeeding can make them less fearful of people
⢠If you see a coyote, stay calm and give it space
⢠Do not run; instead, back away slowly while standing tall
⢠Be assertive: wave your arms, clap, or make noise to encourage the coyote to move on
đ¨ Emergency situations:
If a coyote is acting aggressively or poses an immediate threat to public safety, call 911. For non-emergency sightings, monitor from a distance and report concerns to Animal Services if needed.
đś Keeping your pets safe:
⢠Walk dogs on a leash
⢠Clean up after your dogâcoyotes are attracted to dog f***s
⢠Donât leave pets unattended outdoors, especially at night
⢠Carry a flashlight when walking your dog after dark
Coyotes are a natural part of our ecosystem, and most avoid people. With awareness and a few precautions, we can coexist safely.
