that salt can cause dogs' paws to become irritated, and in some cases, cause chemical burns? It can also be toxic if ingested. Try to discourage your dog from eating ice or snow on walks. Dog booties are a good paw protector if he/she will wear them. If not, there are protective balms you can buy that when applied to the bottom of their paws will act as a barrier between their delicate paws and salt melts.

AAHA accreditation is based on a thorough evaluation of quality standards encompassing all aspects of veterinary medicine—from pain management and patient care to team training and medical recordkeeping. AAHA's standards are continuously updated to keep accredited practice teams at the forefront of the profession. Currently only 12% of all vets in Canada AND the US are AAHA accredited.
