Veterinary teams are made up of people who think differently, process differently, communicate differently, and respond to stress differently.

But most workplaces were never designed with that reality in mind.

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Ron Sosa, CVPM, CCFP, PgD-CLD, to our 2026 Scotland retreat, Brilliantly Wired: Neurodiversity, Behaviour & Inclusive Veterinary Practice.

Across three powerful sessions, Ron will explore what neurodiversity actually looks like in veterinary teams, not as labels or diagnoses, but as a practical leadership and operational reality that affects communication, conflict, workflow, burnout, and team culture every single day.

Topics will include:

🧠 Neurodiversity in Veterinary Teams
How differences in processing, communication, and ex*****on shape team dynamics, and how leaders can better support diverse ways of thinking and working.

⚡ When Neurodiversity Meets Conflict
Understanding how overload, sensory stress, communication styles, and processing differences can contribute to misunderstanding, escalation, and workplace tension.

🛠 Designing a Practice That Works
Applying principles of universal design to create systems, workflows, and expectations that reduce friction, improve consistency, and support the entire team more effectively.

This isn’t about lowering standards.
It’s about creating workplaces where people can function at their best without constant masking, overcompensating, or burning out.

For many veterinary professionals, these conversations feel less like “learning something new”, and more like finally having language for experiences they’ve had their entire careers.

Behaviour cases can be some of the most emotional, frustrating, and misunderstood cases we see in veterinary medicine.

But what if we felt more confident recognizing what was really happening, and knew how to help both the animal and the humans who love them?

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Dr. Claudia Richter, DACVB (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Behaviorists), to our 2026 Scotland retreat, Brilliantly Wired: Neurodiversity, Behaviour & Inclusive Veterinary Practice.

Through real clinical cases and practical applications, Dr. Richter will guide attendees through the diagnosis, treatment, and management of common canine and feline behavioural conditions, with a strong focus on compassionate, low-stress veterinary care.

Topics will include:

🐾 Working up behavioural cases
🐾 Differentiating behavioural vs. medical conditions
🐾 Creating realistic behavioural treatment plans
🐾 Behaviour modification strategies & medication use
🐾 Recognizing fear, anxiety, and stress in veterinary patients
🐾 Reducing stress during veterinary visits and handling

This is the kind of education that changes everyday practice.

Because behaviour isn’t just relevant to specialists, it affects appointments, patient safety, client trust, team wellbeing, and outcomes in nearly every clinic.

Set in the stunning Scottish Highlands at historic Innes House, this retreat combines meaningful CE with connection, restoration, and conversations that go deeper than traditional conferences ever allow.

Not Neurodivergent? This Still Matters to You.

You may not identify as neurodivergent, and you may not think this topic applies to you. But in reality, neurodiversity is already part of your daily life and work, whether you realize it or not.

Every veterinary team includes a wide range of thinking styles, communication preferences, stress responses, and ways of processing information. Some of your colleagues, clients, and even patients’ caregivers may be navigating the world with ADHD, autism, anxiety, or other forms of cognitive difference, diagnosed or not. And often, the challenges we experience in practice, miscommunication, burnout, conflict, overwhelm, aren’t about skill or effort, but about mismatched ways of thinking and interacting.

This portion of the retreat isn’t about labels. It’s about understanding.

It’s about:

Why some team members shut down under pressure while others thrive
Why certain client interactions feel unusually difficult or emotionally charged
Why “simple” systems don’t work for everyone, and what to do instead
How to communicate more effectively across different thinking styles
How to lead, support, and collaborate in a way that actually works in real life

You’ll walk away with practical, immediately applicable tools to improve communication, reduce friction, and create a more functional, supportive environment, for your team, your clients, and yourself.

Because at its core, this isn’t just about neurodiversity.

It’s about becoming a better communicator.
A more effective leader.
And a more compassionate human in a profession that asks a lot of you.

You don’t need to identify as neurodivergent to benefit from this.

You just need to be someone who works with, and cares about, people.

✨ NEW RETREAT ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

We’re thrilled to introduce Brilliantly Wired — a one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive continuing education retreat set deep in the Highlands of Scotland.

Held at the historic Innes House, a 17th-century Highland estate surrounded by ancient trees, rolling parkland, and vast open skies, this immersive retreat is designed for veterinary professionals who know the future of our profession demands something different.

🧠 Neurodiversity. Behaviour. Inclusive Leadership.

Brilliantly Wired brings together expert voices in animal behaviour and neurodiversity to explore how behaviour shows up across every layer of veterinary practice — from patient care to team dynamics to leadership and wellbeing.

Featuring:
• Dr. Claudia Richter, DVM, DACVB — animal behaviour
• Ron Sosa, CVPM, CCFP, PgD-CLD — neurodiversity & leadership in veterinary medicine

This is CE that goes beyond information. Through expert-led learning, case discussions, and guided reflection, participants will gain practical tools for:

✔️ Inclusive, psychologically safe teams
✔️ Compassionate, behaviour-informed care
✔️ Sustainable leadership in a complex profession

And everything is taken care of.

As an all-inclusive retreat, accommodations, meals, and programming are thoughtfully curated — allowing you to step fully away from daily demands and into deep learning, connection, and restoration.

The Scottish Highlands are not just the backdrop — they’re part of the experience. This is a place that invites you to slow down, reconnect with clarity, curiosity, and purpose.

Brilliantly Wired is not about fixing people.
It’s about understanding them.
It’s about recognizing that different wiring is not a liability — it’s a strength.

✨ You don’t need to become someone else to thrive. You just need space to be fully yourself.

In the whirlwind of veterinary life, it’s easy to forget that we’re not meant to do it alone.

Connection is more than small talk — it’s the deep exhale when you’re with people who get it.

It’s the stories that make you laugh until your sides hurt.

It’s the quiet moments when someone sits beside you in silence, and you feel seen without a word.

At Off the Beaten Path Veterinary Retreats, we create space for those connections — with each other, with nature, and with yourself.

Because healing doesn’t just happen in isolation. It happens in community.

Tofino & Ucluelet in the fall is a quiet symphony—
where the wild meets the sacred in whispers.
Storm clouds gather like storytellers above the sea,
and the wind carries secrets through cedar and spruce.

The beaches stretch wide and windswept,
a canvas for driftwood and dreams,
while waves rise in rhythm, crashing
like a heartbeat echoing through mist.

Golden leaves dance down mossy trails,
rain-kissed and glowing with soft light.
Eagles wheel through the grey sky,
and surfers move like shadows on slate.

The scent of salt and woodsmoke lingers—
a lullaby for the soul.
Here, the world slows, breathes,
and remembers how to feel.

This isn’t just a retreat.
It’s a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
It’s the sound of the Pacific reminding you that you are small,
but your healing is vast.

Join us in Ucluelet, BC this fall—
where mossy trails, storm-kissed beaches,
and the steady rhythm of the ocean
create the space to rest, reflect, and renew.

For veterinarians who give everything,
this is where you give something back… to yourself. 🫶
