A lot of big things happened this summer. Some good, some not so good. A highlight for me was getting to marry my best friend! I’m learning that with big changes other changes follow. Life happens in phases, and sometimes you have to close one chapter to focus on others, even if it’s just temporary.

I have thought long and hard about this decision, and believe me when I say I haven’t taken it lightly. Come January, I will no longer be offering farrier services. I am sad, and I will miss all of my amazing clients and horses that I have met through this process.

Luckily, I have names of a couple farriers willing to take on anyone who needs a recommendation. Please message me if you want their contact info or have any questions or concerns.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. I don’t think this is goodbye forever, just a see ya later🌸

Feet should not look like they are going to fall apart before you schedule your horses. If they still look good at the end of your cycle, that means I am doing my job!

Why does your farrier require you to stay on a schedule if you stay with him? Is he just wanting more money? Is he just taking advantage of you? Absolutely not. It’s all about keeping the horse’s foot as consistent as possible. Too many people think “oh, they don’t look bad so they don’t need done.” When in reality, if they do look good inbetween cycles, and they still look good when they are due next…that’s a compliment to the job the farrier has done.

For every 1 centimeter of extra toe, it’s an added 50 kilograms of force on the tendons. If you do the conversion, that’s 110lbs of extra tension!!!!! Think about the pain a horse has with toes that are 4-5” long. Or, on a horse that’s only done once or twice a year. So, when a farrier requires or asks that their clients stay on a schedule, it’s for the benefit of the horse. It’s our job as farriers to do what we can to keep our client horses both sound and comfortable.

Client tip of the month

May-
Tied horses. All farriers have different preferences when shoeing horses. If your horse is tied, please do so in a safe manner. Crossties should have a piece of bailing twine or similar on the wall attachment side. This will allow for things to break when needed and have a long section attached to the now loose horse. This isn’t the time to train a horse to tie and not pull back. Don’t tie your horse to the shed door handle.

We’ve recently had one of our farriers hurt in a way that could have been prevented. Let’s keep horses safe and farriers safe!

Free choice alfalfa is also not the best answer. Insulin dysregulation and dietary indiscretion are avoidable! The fat pockets on Fluffy’s croup and the giant hard crest are not cute or healthy!

Let me introduce you to one of my extra curricular hobbies.

An important note to clients, I will be away from the 18th to the 26th. We are taking our show string to Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan. I will have very limited time to answer messages, so please be patient, and try to limit it to emergencies only!

On another note, I’m booked into December already! If you need your horses done please book ASAP.

Thank you for your understanding🌸

Trim. Fit. Nail up. Trust the process.

As summer comes to a close, and shoes start getting pulled for winter, it’s nice to sit back and think of all the wonderful horses I had the privilege of getting under this summer. I’m definitely ready for a slower winter and the chance to rejuvenate for next summer!

Important message for clients!

I will not be available from the 14th-21st of June. My availability for June is very limited, so make sure to book ASAP if you haven’t already.

Another note, I will no longer be keeping track of horses cycles. There are too many for me to handle. Please either pre book at the end of your current appointment, or give me a couple weeks notice to book when your horses are due. Overdue trims will be billed accordingly.

Happy Sunday🌸
