🩸 Canine Blood Donors Needed – December 10th! 🐾

We’re recruiting canine blood donors for our upcoming blood donor clinic at Clearspring Animal Hospital on Thursday, December 10th!

Just like in human medicine, blood transfusions can be lifesaving for dogs experiencing trauma, undergoing surgery, or dealing with serious illness. Having a reliable supply of donated blood makes that care possible.

Could your dog be a donor?

We’re looking for dogs who:
🐾 Are healthy and have a friendly temperament
🐾 Weigh at least 25 kg (55 lbs)
🐾 Are between 1–8 years old (18 months minimum for giant breeds)
🐾 Are up to date on vaccinations

Donors receive some great benefits, including complimentary blood-borne disease and heartworm testing, free microchip identification, a donor bandana and tag, and recognition for repeat donations.

🐾 DID YOU KNOW? RVT EDITION

Your pet has an entire medical professional dedicated to monitoring them during anesthesia. ❤️

When your pet undergoes surgery, the veterinarian isn't the only one with an important job!

RVTs are busy calculating and administering medications under veterinary direction, preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, and making adjustments within established protocols to help keep patients safe.

They're watching heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, oxygen levels, temperature, and more.

And their job doesn't end when surgery does!

RVTs continue monitoring patients through recovery, managing comfort, and watching for any signs that something isn't quite right.

Here's something you might not know: Anesthesia isn't simply putting a pet to sleep. It's a carefully monitored medical process that requires knowledge, skill, and constant attention.

So while your pet is snoozing through their procedure, your RVT is doing anything but! 😴💙

🐾 DID YOU KNOW? Your veterinary technologist does a whole lot more than you might think! 🩺

October is RVT Month, and we thought we'd pull back the curtain on what our Registered Veterinary Technologists actually do!

Think your RVT just holds your pet while the veterinarian examines them? Think again! 😉

🩸 They're the lab technicians – Collecting blood, running diagnostics, examining samples under the microscope, and helping figure out what's going on with your pet.

💉 They're the anesthetists – Calculating medications, monitoring anesthesia, tracking vital signs, and keeping patients safe throughout surgery.

🦷 They're the dental hygienists – Cleaning and polishing teeth, taking dental X-rays, and assessing oral health.

🚑 They're the emergency nurses – Placing IV catheters, providing critical care, monitoring hospitalized patients, and responding when every second counts.

🔬 They're the diagnostic imaging team – Taking X-rays and, with additional training, performing ultrasound scans.

❤️ They're the patient advocates – Recognizing subtle changes, managing pain, providing comfort, and making sure every patient gets the attention they deserve.

And sometimes? They're the ones sitting on the kennel floor, hand-feeding a nervous patient, cleaning up a mess for the fifth time, or giving an extra cuddle when nobody's watching.

One profession. An incredible number of hats. And a whole lot of heart.

This month, we're celebrating the RVTs who make so much of what we do at Clearspring possible.

Next time you're at the vet, give your RVT a little extra love. Chances are they've done a dozen things for your pet that you never even knew about! 🐾💙
