The concept of the Five Freedoms for animals, including equines, originated in the 1960s and has since become a foundational principle for animal welfare globally. The Five Freedoms were first proposed in 1965 as a framework for assessing and ensuring the welfare of farmed animals. Over time, these principles have been adapted and applied to various animal species, including horses.

In our journey to promote equine wellness, it's essential to recognize the impact of stress on horses. Allostatic load refers to the cumulative physiological strain resulting from the body's response to stressors over time. By understanding and managing allostatic load, we can safeguard horses' well-being by minimizing the negative effects of chronic stress. This directly ties into the Five Freedoms, ensuring horses have the freedom from fear and distress by creating environments that support their mental well-being. 💕

I am thrilled to share the exciting news that I have successfully completed both my Level 1 Equine Osteopathy Certificate study and my Level 2 Equine Osteopathy Diploma of Clinical Competence with Animal Osteopathy International (AOI)! 🍾🍾

Reflecting on the journey that led me to this achievement, I think back to 2020. While I was deeply passionate about my work in Equine Massage, I felt compelled to delve deeper into the study of equines. My goal was to expand my education and enhance my understanding, with the ultimate aim of making a meaningful difference in the well-being of these magnificent creatures.

The AOI path I embarked on was both challenging and transformative. Over the course of my Level 1 Equine Osteopathy Certificate study, I gained valuable insights into the intricacies of equine anatomy and osteopathic principles. This foundation fueled my determination to pursue the Level 2 Equine Osteopathy Diploma of Clinical Competence.

The Level 2 program pushed me to refine my skills and deepen my comprehension of equine osteopathy, providing me with the tools and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to the field. Through rigorous training and hands-on experience, I honed my abilities to assess, diagnose, and address the unique needs of each equine patient.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the team at Animal Osteopathy International for their comprehensive and enriching curriculum, as well as to my mentors (Dustie Houchinand Eleanor Andrews) and study buddies (Angela Lemanisand Katey Campbell who supported me throughout this educational journey! And of course great thanks to my husband Scott Cullwho supported me throughout emotionally and with every Monday "study-buddy night" dinner!

As I proudly carry the achievements of these certifications forward, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed commitment to the well-being of our equine companions. I am excited to apply my newfound expertise in Equine Osteopathy and contribute positively to the health and happiness of these incredible animals.

Here's to the next chapter and the continued pursuit of excellence in equine care! 🐴✨
