🎾 Meet Bear — Professional Ball Chaser, Swimmer & Forever Puppy

Hi! I’m Bear.

Before we go any further, yes, I know my name is Bear.

And yes, I’m a girl. 😂

I’m 3 years old, although apparently nobody has informed me that I’m supposed to be a grown-up now. I still look like a puppy, I still act like a puppy, and I have absolutely no plans to slow down anytime soon.

My mom is Maggie, an English Bulldog, and my dad was Moose, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, which makes me a Bullador — Bulldog/Lab mix.

Basically, imagine a Labrador Retriever who got put through the dryer and came out a little smaller.

That’s me.

🎾 Did Someone Say BALL?

I LOVE to play fetch.

Actually, “love” might be understating it.

I can play fetch over…

and over…

and over…

and over again.

We even have one of those automatic ball launchers, but apparently the machine was not designed for someone with my level of commitment.

Sometimes it takes too long to throw the next ball, so I give it a little nudge just to remind it:

Excuse me. I’m ready. Throw the ball.

I have places to be.

Mostly wherever the ball is going.

❤️ I Love People

I am a happy, affectionate girl who would be wonderful with an active family.

I love kids, especially kids who actually want to play with me. If your family likes being outdoors, going for walks, heading to the park, throwing balls or spending time near the water, I would fit right in.

I also get along with most dogs, although any new canine friend should still be introduced properly to make sure we’re a good match.

I am:

I’m not just cute.

I’m smart.

I listen very well and learn quickly. I enjoy having something to do, especially when that something involves playing, exploring or spending time with my people.

Because I have plenty of energy, I would do best with a family that actually wants an active companion rather than someone looking for a dog who wants to sleep on the couch all day.

Don’t get me wrong.

I can enjoy the couch.

I would just appreciate it if you could throw the ball from there.

💦 Labrador Software, Bulldog-Sized Hardware

A lot of my personality comes straight from my Lab side.

I love being active.

I love playing.

I love water.

I love swimming.

I love being around people.

But I’m smaller than a typical Labrador, and because of my size and appearance, people still regularly think I’m a puppy.

I see absolutely no reason to correct them.

🩺 The Important Stuff

I am a 3-year-old female Bullador.

I am not spayed, and I am vaccinated.

My future family should understand that I am an intact female and be prepared to manage that responsibly and discuss future veterinary care with their own veterinarian.

🏡 My Dream Family

My perfect home would have people who want me involved in their lives.

Kids to play with would be fantastic.

A yard would be wonderful.

Someone willing to take me walking, swimming or adventuring would make me very happy.

And most importantly…

You need to be willing to throw the ball.

A lot.

Seriously.

🐾 Meet Maggie — I Can’t See You, But I’ll Know You’re There

Hi, I’m Maggie.

I’m a 4-year-old female English Bulldog, and there is something important you should know about me right away:

I’m blind.

I was born this way, so I don’t know life any differently. I get around remarkably well once I learn where everything is — although I have one very reasonable request:

Please stop moving the furniture!

I memorize my surroundings. I learn where the couch is, where the walls are, where my bed is and how to get to my favourite people. If you decide the couch would look better three feet to the left without telling me, I may enthusiastically try to jump onto it…

…and discover that apparently the floor has replaced it.

Or the wall.

It sounds a little funny — and sometimes I suppose it is — but for me it can also be confusing. A predictable home helps me feel confident and safe.

What I’m Looking For

I would really love to be your one and only companion.

I don’t want other animals crowding my space, and because I cannot see someone approaching me or read their body language, I would prefer a home without young children poking, grabbing or surprising me.

What I want is something quieter.

Just me and my person.

Someone I can learn to trust.

Someone whose voice I recognize.

Someone who understands that sometimes I need you to guide me because I cannot see where we are going — but who will also let me discover just how much I can do for myself.

Once I know you, I want to be close to you. I’m generally quiet, but don’t confuse quiet with independence. I absolutely expect affection and companionship.

I love:

* 🎾 Playing in ways that don’t require me to see where something went

I Listen Better Than You Might Expect

Not being able to see does not mean I cannot learn.

I listen very well, I know my name, and I come when I’m called. Voice, sound, scent and routine help me understand my world.

With someone willing to communicate with me consistently, I can learn the layout and routines of my new home and become increasingly confident.

My History

I am not spayed.

I have previously had a litter of puppies with a large Labrador Retriever. Our puppies were Bulldog/Lab mixes, sometimes called Bulladors.

And despite being completely blind, I was a wonderful mama.

I didn’t need to see my babies to know exactly where they were or what they needed.

But once those babies were old enough to head off into the world, I was perfectly happy to let them find families of their own.

Mama Maggie was officially off duty.

My Ideal Home

My perfect home would be:

Quiet. Predictable. Adult-focused. No other pets.

Most importantly, I need someone who understands that blindness does not mean helplessness.

Please don’t feel sorry for me.

Instead, help me learn my surroundings, speak to me so I know where you are, give me consistency, and let me trust you enough to follow your lead.

Once I know you’re my person, I’m going to want to know exactly where you are.

Because even though I can’t see you…

I can hear you.
I can smell you.
I can recognize you.
And I can absolutely love you.

👑 Meet Charlotte — Her Royal Highness Is Seeking a New Kingdom

Hello, peasants… I mean, potential new family.

My name is Charlotte. I am a 5-year-old female English Bulldog, and in case my expression hasn’t already made this perfectly clear, I am a princess.

A very spoiled princess.

And I see absolutely no reason for that to change.

I am up to date on my vaccinations and I am house trained. However, if I begin to suspect that you have forgotten my importance, I have been known to leave a little reminder on a conveniently located rug, sweater, blanket, or other item. Consider it less of an accident and more of a formal complaint from management.

I have also been crate trained, although I strongly object to the entire concept. You can put me in a crate, but rest assured that I will be submitting my complaint loudly and immediately.

As for exercise, I am certainly not lazy. I simply believe in conserving my energy for important activities such as being pampered, receiving treats, chewing on things and supervising my humans from a comfortable position.

I love:

* Being spoiled
* Treats
* Chew toys and things I can gnaw on
* Lounging somewhere comfortable
* Having my humans wait on me hand and foot
* Being the undisputed centre of attention

Now, we need to discuss my royal court.

I do not want one.

I do not tolerate other dogs or other animals in my personal space, so I need a home where I can be the only pet. I have no interest in sharing my kingdom, my people or my attention. Please don’t adopt me thinking I will eventually learn to love having another pet around. I am telling you quite clearly: Princess Charlotte wishes to rule alone.

I am not spayed. Handling around my private areas is something I am extremely uncomfortable with, so my future family needs to understand and respect that boundary and be prepared to work appropriately with a veterinarian if medical care in that area is ever required.

What I really need is someone who understands bulldogs, appreciates a dog with a BIG personality, and wants a companion who has absolutely no difficulty expressing her opinions.

I may be stubborn.

I may be dramatic.

I may occasionally behave as though the entire household exists for my comfort.

But once you understand that I am the princess and you are the staff, I think we’ll get along wonderfully.

💜 Meet Layla — A Gentle Giant Learning to Be Brave

Hi, I’m Layla.

I’m an 18-month-old blue merle Great Dane, which means I’m technically getting pretty big…

…but sometimes I’m still not entirely convinced that the world isn’t a little scary.

I’m a shy, nervous girl, and I can be skittish when something surprises me. I’m still young, still learning, and still figuring out that I don’t need to be afraid of everything.

What I really need is someone who looks at me and doesn’t just see the things I haven’t learned yet.

I need someone who sees the dog I can become.

💜 I Need Patience More Than Anything

I could become an absolutely wonderful companion, but I need people who are willing to spend time with me, train me consistently and help me build confidence.

I respond best when people are patient and reassuring.

If I get frightened, yelling or forcing me through something isn’t going to help.

I need someone who can say:

“It’s okay, Layla. I’ve got you.”

…and then show me that I really am safe.

As I learn to trust you, you’ll start seeing more and more of the dog underneath all that nervousness.

🐾 What I Like

I love to:

* Chew on things
* Spend time around people I trust
* Be outside
* Explore once I feel safe
* Get reassurance from my people

And yes…

I like to chew.

I’m still a young Great Dane, so appropriate chew toys and continued training are definitely going to be important unless you have always secretly wanted a Great Dane to redecorate your house.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Life

I like children and could do very well with a family that understands I’m a large, young dog who is still learning.

I am also good with large dogs.

However, I should not live with small dogs or other small animals.

Because I am nervous, any introductions to new people or large dogs should be done calmly and carefully rather than throwing me into an overwhelming situation.

🚶 Walking With Me

I do walk on leash, but this is one area where my future family needs to take my size seriously.

Sometimes something scares me and I may suddenly pull or try to get away from whatever frightened me.

And remember…

I’m a Great Dane.

When I decide to go somewhere, there is a whole lot of Layla going with me.

For that reason, I need to be walked using a secure, properly fitted harness or front-control walking system that gives my handler good physical control.

My new family should continue working with me on calm leash walking and confidence around things that frighten me.

🧠 I’m Still Learning

I am only 18 months old.

I’m not finished becoming who I’m going to be.

I need continued work with:

* Basic obedience
* Leash manners
* Confidence building
* Appropriate chewing
* New environments
* Calm exposure to unfamiliar things
* Learning to look to my person when I’m unsure

Someone experienced with large or giant-breed dogs would be especially helpful.

You don’t have to expect me to know everything.

I just need you to be willing to teach me.

Choose me because you’re prepared to help a nervous young Great Dane become confident enough to discover just how beautiful life can be.

Your pooch will enjoy a fun filled day here at BCB once per week for seven weeks. An hr of obedience dedicated to them 1 on 1 and those commands echoed throughout the rest of the day while they learn through structured play, socialize with other well mannered dogs of all ages and are exposed to many environmental stressors in a positive way to help build a stable temperament! Email sent home once a week outlining what was taught in that particular session and homework for owners to do throughout the week for continued success! 🙂 Young puppies will also benefit as we will work on housebreaking and crate training during their stay!
