We tried some hand walking today, aside from needing to show off to the c**t across the way (of course) Gucci was a good boy.
After two weeks on stall rest all the P&V is accumulating so if he doesnt get a outlet for his energy he is going to become a menace. It is hard for any horse to live restricted in a small box, let alone a 2yr old c**t who is used to 24/7 free moment and socializing.
He will be living on box rest and bandaged for quite some time to come but if we can get some controlled exercise added to the mix he will be a much happier boy.
The good news is he is moving quite soundly. ✨️

This is Rose, one of the other critters in our clan. While she is not directly related to our Curly project she is still tied into the family here on the farm.

This baby pony is such a sweet wee gem, unfortunately she is suffering from a stubborn hoof abscess right now and has been barn buddies with Gucci.

Rose turns 2 next year, when we will start working more with her and determining where she fits into the program here on the farm.

100 days in foal! 🥳

Our first mare due next season in Ingrid, she should foal some time after March 4th (safe date of 320 days).

I know some folks think we are nuts using a gaited mare in a sport breeding program but this isn’t a random plan.
My primary interest in using Ingrid as part of our breeding program is to obtain and preserve the SP6 curly gene that she carries.
She is even more rare than our KRT25 mares (Magnolia and Topanga), and carries a gene which supports stronger hair growth and better overall hair quality when compared to KRT25 Curlies. There is some speculation that specific curl genes also have different effects for allergy sufferers and so using and providing a range of different genetics can be important for ongoing studies.
Also, Dorfkind G - as far as I am aware, the only other Curly accepted into European sport books, is Curly through Missouri Fox Trotter bloodlines which are similar to Ingrids. The SP6 curlies have proven to produce good sport type when bred carefully. Many of the Sport bred curlies I adore in Europe were initially bred using gaited MFT SP6 curly bloodlines.
I do think variety and putting available genetics to use is important for overall future benefit to Curly Sporthorse breed type.

Ingrid was bred successfully to Cool Down this spring and although I have not checked her recently all of her early markers looked great.

I am very much anticipating the birth of this foal.
There is a chance this foal will be gaited like Ingrid which if so I expect this to be a very interesting specimen with good elasticity and athleticism.
Hopefully we get curls but I cannot control that, it is all part of the gamble.
With Ingrid being a Smoky Black Sabino there are all sorts of colour and pattern options for this baby.

A fun thought - if we get a Curly c**t from Ingrid there is the possibility of using him over one of the other Curly line mares and producing offspring from Magnolias mtDNA line but with Ingrids SP6 curl gene &/or even a dual gene curly, depending if we go that route or not.

The pedigrees for our two 2026 foals.
They are each unique due to their very different bottom sides.

Cover Girl TY is our second gen of 75% Westfalen GRP breeding giving her a very sport pony type. She is bred back on Dornik B top and bottom. Her damline, and thus mtDNA, goes back to hardy foundation Curly breeding. Like the mares before her, I expect her to be easy keeping, calm and reliable. She is quite fancy and an excellent choice for someone seeking an ammy friendly Dressage prospect.

Cool Dude TY is also a second gen foal, but of 50% Thoroughbred bloodlines giving him a much sportier/sleeker look.
He comes from some very prominent TB sport bloodlines, mixed with top European pony blood. If someone wanted a go getter this c**t could be a good option. He is also clear of inbreeding through the 5th, making him attractive for those who like clean pedigrees and diversified blood.
