Dog noses aren't just for smelling! The rhinarium, which is the naked, wet skin at the tip of the nose, can act as an infrared sensor, capable of detecting weak thermal radiation. This ability may help dogs in various activities, including hunting, tracking, or detecting hidden animals. What's even more remarkable is that even dogs with impaired sight, hearing, or smell can still hunt successfully thanks to their heat-detecting noses :)
